Poetry in Music

I don't know if there has been a thread like this before but here goes...

Post the lyrics that get to ya. I don't mean full song lyrics. I mean those verses that you can just feel the ones that speak to ya. List the Song title and artist as well if you know it. Here's a few of mine:

INXS
"Never Tear Us Apart"

We could live for a thousand years
If I hurt you, I'd make wine from your tears
I told you, that we could fly
Cause we all have wings
But some of us don't know why

SEAL
"Kiss From A Rose"

There is so much a man can tell you,
So much he can say.
You remain, my power, my pleasure, my pain, baby
To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny.
Won't you tell me is that healthy, baby?

Love remaines a drug that's the high and not the pill.

Nobody says it better than SNFU:

Who is that new waitress? He wants her on his plate
Well every time he sees her he just has to masturbate
He wants her luscious breasts on the end of his fork
But all this menu offers is chicken, beef & pork

Or...

There's fire at the end of the block
The people gather round to watch
Well instead of helping they just sit
As helpless people burn to a crisp

I think in code: while(1) execute();

I'd rather die when I'm living then when I'm dead.

Alrighty then! Here's another of mine: The whole song is poetry!

PINK FLOYD
Wish You Were Here

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange
a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl,
year after year,
running over the same old ground. What have we found?
The same old fears, wish you were here.

Don McLean
"Vincent (Starry,Starry nights)"

The words and imagery of this song represent the life, work, and death of Vincent Van Gogh. "A Starry Night" is one of the Dutch impressionist's most famous paintings.

Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land

Chorus:

Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free
They would not listen they did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now

Starry, starry night
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds in violet haze
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue
Colors changing hue
Morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand

Chorus

For they could not love you
But still your love was true
And when no hope was left inside
On that starry, starry night
You took your life as lovers often do
But I could have told you Vincent
This world was never meant for one as
beautiful as you

Starry, starry night
Portraits hung in empty halls
Frameless heads on nameless walls
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget
Like the strangers that you've met
The ragged men in ragged clothes
The silver thorn of bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow

Now I think I know
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free
They would not listen, they're not listening still
Perhaps they never will

We like to sing this at night out on the Bayou!!
