Prison Population of the USA - Guitars101

I was shocked to hear Vice President Dick Cheney say that the USA prison population has been ballooning for the past ten years.

My God, has the world gone mad? Those people are there to be punished, not to be given 'thrill of a lifetime' experiences that most law abiding citizens can only dream of.

I agree whole heartedly, to think we spend more on the people that have inflicted a pain upon the face of mankind , than the elderly is a shame, the ones that made this country and built it into what we have today don't get jack sh*t and the prisoners get better treatment. Today on the news was another cut in medicare...I say cut the funding to the prisoners, let them suffer as those they have chosen to perpitrate a crime against humanity. I agree, bring back the friggin chain gangs and HARD labor, make it to where they don't ever want to go back.
I will quit before this turns into a rant...

Bill....read the last letters of my post backwards. Maybe ballooning doesn;t mean the same thing in America as it does in Europe.

In my view, if you violate someone's rights, you forfeit your own. Then again, there are no shades of gray with me. I think it it beyond insane that it costs the taxpayers, on average, 40k per prisoner (food, clothing, medicine, etc). They get three square meals a day, cable tv, exercise equipment...the whole nine yards. Fuck, I would stay too. Who wouldn't want free room and board and all you can eat plus entertainment? Prisoners have more rights than you know...they can cause problems for the prison if they complain about the food or harsh treatment. There are some sick, tree-hugging, sympathetic fucktards who will fight for these scumbags like there's no tomorrow.

I always felt that if the penal system in the US was more like that of, say, Turkey, you would way more reluctance to do the crime and WAY LESS repeat performers.

You are getting lost in translation....ballooning means growing by large numbers to us. I think you are saying "vacationing" is something like that.
