Relaxation Question ?

Hi peeps, just wondering...

If I've had a hard day, or if I'm just a little stressed out, I can put Van Halen on (or any heavy metal / rock, for that matter) and instantly relax as I get lost in the music.

It's as though something connects in there and all my worries dissapear and I can just drift off into peacefulness.

In fact, at University, where we had an open door policy, the only way I could get some sleep was to blast out my music as I could not sleep when being subjected to the likes of Take That, etc.

Just wondered whether it's the same for you. My mates at Uni couldn't believe that I could sleep with Van Halen on full blast, but were amazed that should you turn it off, I'd wake up, although with it on, I'd be in deep sleep. My wife also can't understand how the sounds of such heavy agressive music at such loud volumes can cause me to wind down, as it just stresses her out.

Just wondered if it was the same with you lot. Does heavy music help you destress ? Does pop music stress you out ? Or does it not affect you this way ? Either it pumps you up, or doesn't affect you at all ?

Just wondering, is all...

Re: Relaxation Question ?

Yeah, I can totally relate to that.
If I need to totally relax or if I am having trouble sleeping I will listen to a Camel album at quite a reasonable volume and then just get right into it and fall asleep after a few tracks, maybe waking up so far through imagining I am playing one of Andy Latimers fabulous solos (yeah, Fat Chance!), and then drifting off again.
I had a bad time earlier this year when I was rushed to hospital after collapsing at work (due to stress, they said), and they wanted me to relax by listening to "chill out music" like water flowing and pan pipes etc., but I prefer to stick on a fav CD and just melt into it.

Funny how I always wake up again when the last track finishes and there is total silence again

Interesting, Mondola.
I like heavy metal and it always makes me energized and happier when I listen to it, but I need silence to sleep.

Don't get me wrong CC, it pumps me up as well, when I need it to do. But it also helps me relax as well. Probably because it shuts everything else out ? I dunno.

Just does whatever I want it to do really.

Yeah, and certain songs that remind me of certain times of my life. The one thing that relaxes me the most, though, is picking up my guitar and just scaling and gentle chording. Oh god i got an erection just thinking about it!

Spanking the monkey and pizza usually puts me right to sleep

Re: Relaxation Question ?

Yeah, but take it to another level spanking along to one of Eddie's solos...

You'll sleep right through, you'll be exhausted dude !!!

Just remember to move the pizza a safe distance and wash your hands after !!!
