Soundclick Users
Hey all soundclick people, have any of you received an e-mail from Statue Records for a license / distribution for any of your music. I did yesterday and was wondering if anyone else has received the same. I am sooo excited and I hope this is not a scam. The message came from Soundclick and was from Statue, an idenpendent record company. I looked them up on the net and they do exist and have many artists and styles. let me know if any of you recieve the same offer. I will let you guys know what the outcome is when I contact the representative.

I think that .cda format is the same format used by traditinal audio CDs. Put a commercial audio cd in your computers player, and then use windows explorer to view whats on the disk - I think you'll see that they are .cda files.

Statue Label
Hi Rilecomm, You'll have to forgive me because I can't remember all the details, and in the meanwhile I put an e-mail out to my buddy to try and verify the whole scoop... but basically, they are an avenue or premier member to places like taxi and others that provide media to industry folk from all areas, film, tv, radio in the area of advertisement, movie scores, etc... They take your work as is, help you get it copyrighted if not already protected and then do whatever it is that they do behind the scenes to get it noticed in the above areas. In the band I was in, (I just played rhythm on some of the homegrown recordings, the songwriter ran the show), they approached him as well. And he got involved with them. As far as I know though, nothing came of it. Which doesn't mean that will be the case for your stuff. It wasn't your traditional "label" big or indie as I remember. Hopefully I'll hear back from my buddy and see if he can give some more details and throw them into this thread for you. Either way, good luck!

Hey thanks everyone for your feedback. I really didn't think they would make me rich, ha, ha, but I thought it would be cool if they got the music out to stations and stores, but I was worried about cost to do that. I wasn't gonna invest hundreds of dollars for them to do their thing. I will keep you guys informed.

That's what I'm talking about. It shouldn't cost anything, hell you're the guy supplying them with wares, they should do a consignment or something of that nature or maybe a percentage of sales. I thought there was a catch to it.

well from what i understand you dont have to get on the website if you dont want to.. all that does is allows you to name the price for your songs and get you the most exposure i guess...

I got one today also and it comes as a really big surprise to me. I definately don't think I have anything interesting to a record company. It's making me wonder if they don't just blast all of soundclick with their messages from time to time (in my case anyway). I mean, my soundclick site is hardly above the rating of toy.

What did you guys decide to do? I sent a reply cause my curiosity is definately pequed.

This is what I am thinking
I have started thinking about what this means. First off you have to look at who is getting them. My music is decent, my ability is decent, but the quality of both is not what I would call prime for record deals. No hunter is going to see what I am doing and say, "Hey, that guy can make it." Looking at it honestly, those are not even songs I put up on my site. They are doodles, and this group is saying they want them.
Then I look at how many recieved that message. We have quite a few recorded cases now.
What I think we have here is a company that gobbles up anything that looks like a musician in hopes that they can make money off of it. For now I am going to assume they didn't even actually listen to anything I have on that site and I am thinking that is a good bet. They don't know what they are buying into, they are just fishing.
What happens next is what has me curious. I responded and asked, "What is it you found on my site that interests you?" Now they WILL listen to my 'music' and I will be a little surprised if they still want to pick it up, but not a whole lot.
I am going to be very interested in what rights they want me to sign away should they still want me. What are they going to do for me for those rights? If I make myself something are they going to want to take over if someone *actually wants my music someday*? Am I signing into something were they don't do shit until I happen to do something remarkable and get myself a name...and then they are all over it?
I am also not going to kid myself. If they pick me up, and the contract looks benign and I decide to sign, they are probably going to do the same thing with the other side as they did with me. Here is a crap load of stuff...any of it pique your interest? It is highly doubtful to me that they are going to do a lot with my music...ymmv of course. It will probably sit in a vault until some day they think maybe someone will be interested and then I come out with 100's of others. And that day may never arrive.
So that is what I am thinking. They are talent gobblers. Gold panners...panning for gold nuggets in a big pile of pebbles. They pick up everyone they can, and THEN they sift through them. Because quite frankly none of what is on my site should be on a record of any sort. It isn't bad, it just isn't that kind of material.
I am going to keep my mind open, but I think I got their number...we'll see.
Has anyone talked to the people of soundclick to find out if they know anything about this? I have recieved spam from the contact artist link before and they deleted the fucker. I wonder how they would see this message...
