The Most Exhausting Weekend of my LIFE

So, you think you had a tiring weekend? Try this on for size:

On Friday, I left with my bride and 19 month old twin boys and drove to Indiana for a weekend at the lake with some cousins and their kids. What should have been a three hour trip turned into a five hour drive due to the traffic at the Illinois/Indiana border. Needless to say the boys were a wee bit cranky during the last 90 minutes.

So, we get to the lake only to find that we are sharing a room with the kids - something we've never done before. So, we goof around for a while and get them to bed at their usual time. The rest of the night was catching up with our cousins and having a few (okay, more than a few) brews. I think I went to bed around 1:00 AM.

The boys woke up early of course - around 5:30 AM (they usually sleep until about 7:00). We get downstairs and feed them breakfast. I guess this is the time I let you all know that there were other kids there that weekend. In total, 7 kids under the age of 6: My twin boys who are 19 months, twin girls (one who is special needs) who are 22 months old, and three girls - 3, 5, and 6. They proceeded to run circles around us all freaking day on Saturday - swimming with us, wanting to go on the boat a million times, wanting to eat hot dogs at every meal. Suffice to say it was not a quiet day.

The kids went down to bed fine on Saturday night and the guys decided to play poker with some guys in another house. Another late night (1:00 AM) and a lot more beer. Frankly, I was drunk. I dropped my sorry ass in bed at 1:00 only to be woken up from my golden slumber by one of the twin girls from down the hall SCREAMING her head off, apparently from a night terror. Well, that woke up both our boys and they were up (which meant I was up) until about 5:30 when they finally collapsed. This was really crappy because they are usually such great sleepers but there was just way too much commotion. So, I slept about another hour or so before everyone else started getting up.

On Sunday (also getaway day) I was hung over and dog tired. The boys, due to lack of sleep were also fried and were crying just about non stop if everything didn't go their way. We finally left the lake at about 12:30 and everyone was asleep in five minutes, except for me - the driver. Unfortunately, the boys only slept an hour (they usually take a three hour nap) and we hit official meltdown status.....lots of screaming, throwing things (and that was from me!!). We finally got home around 5:00 and, after a contentous dinner the boys went down an hour earlier than normal. I finally dragged my sorry ass to bed around 9:00 and slept like a log.

So, next time you think you had a long and tiring weekend, think of old WIP5150......

Nice. What lake? We used to go to a place called Shaeffer Lake. Pretty kick ass little spot.
