This weekend I opened up a letter with the return address from our local (Kansas City) outdoor concert venue and there were two free tickets to go see Thin Lizzy open up for Deep Purple (featuring probably my biggest guitar idol and influence,
Joe Satriani, as tour guitarist, which he has been doing for the last number of tours during his off-time from his own touring). I guess maybe they didn’t sell as many tickets as anticipated and want to fill up the place a little, maybe make a little extra money on parking and concessions. I recently saw RUSH (another of my all-time greatest influences) at this same place and so did a guy that I work with and we both received the 2 free tickets in the mail, so maybe they figured we might also like these two groups. Made me realize that there really MUST be a God! I am not overly familiar with Deep Purple, other than the two or three more popular tunes, but I have become a bit of a Thin Lizzy fan over the last 3 or 4 years. Don’t know how they are still calling themselves Thin Lizzy, since the main dude died a number of years ago and they seem to have cycled through a few guitar players over the years. But hell, if
Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Almond Bros. can do it, I guess TL can too, right? I feel like I should probably be more familiar with Deep Purple based on how many BTs from them I see on this site. What can any of you all tell me about Deep Purple beyond Smoke on the Water? Any suggestions for some good starter albums to purchase? Anyway, I am headed out there tonight. Should be a great show. I will leave a review tomorrow. Cheers!
