to play or not to play
i have a dilmemma guys. i recently got into a band after a few months hiatus. but, the vocalist i got is a chick who doesnt dig old school rock and shred metal. she is into rock, think avril. the other guitarist, ändrew the shredder, is into stuff like me. the drummer on the other hand is cool and plays anything, but he seems too percecpsive. he wants everything to be perfect and stuff. i see a future in this band when we do originals as i wanna blend shred into mainstream. the vocalist also has contacts and can get labels for us. i am wondering if i should stick on,or form a new band. andrew will probably leave too. advice pls guys.

Re: to play or not to play
Maybe you, the drummer, the other guitarist can form a side project without the vocalist and keep the other band going?

stay with the band .. even if it does start going to a style your not really into .. you can slowly introduce your style in little bits and bobs at a time.. you will learn alot i am sure of this !

Yes, slowly introduce the shred........ then one day the vocalist will suddenly realise her band plays the fastest shred known to mankind

"the vocalist also has contacts and can get labels for us" Everyone says that. Do what you want, singers are a dime a dozen, lol.

Re: to play or not to play
Dude, everyone has contacts. The trick is knowing that everyone is full of shit. What tyou need to do is try it out for a little while, then figure out who fits where. Start plugging people where you want them, and remove those that don't fit. Build the band to fit the music of the musicians. No one says it has to be ready-made.

Hell man, I say play what you want. Do what you want to do, not what someone else wants to do.

Re: to play or not to play
This thread reminds me of that band from the 80's, Missing Persons. The Musicians in the band were (and are, except Warren Cuccrurullo, who became a porn star) the best of the day. Here they were playing this ridiculous simple music, yet the fact that they were holding back so mightily(straining at the leash big time) , made the music wickedly potent. This is a good musicians job! This is generally where a musician can make the biggest statement of a career, though it is not virtuosic. When I listen to Terry Bozzio today, every thing he did and does sence Missing persons has seemed extremely self indulgent and masturbatory. Am I wrong?
