Webcam Conferencing
Hi Guys,
Was wondering if anyone has a webcam ?
Little history for you : my sister is emigrating to Australia. Obviously, we're not gonna get out there that often to see her. Therefore, we've all bought webcams so that we can talk to her out there. She doesn't know we have done this, so it's gonna be a surprise when she gets out there.
However, I've never done this before, so I need to test it first. I am gonna be testing it with other members of my sisters family-in-law over in Australia, but I'm waiting for them to get back to me.
So, in the meanwhile, if anyone has one, and would like to try a link up via MSN Messanger, then please PM me. I just want to see if I can actually get this working or not !
Thanx guys

Re: Webcam Conferencing
Good call!
I don't have one, but sounds like fun! Plus, I guess you're bypassing the phone company by doing that, right? Save major $$$ in the process...

Re: Webcam Conferencing
Yeah, my wife was worrying about how much it would cost. I told her that it would cost nothing. She couldn't quite comprehend it at first.
But yeah, I'm just gonna be using the internet connection that I pay for monthly anyway, so no extra costs.
Dave G, let me know if you get to set it up, just to see if it works...

Re: Webcam Conferencing
Well, just tried this. We could see each other, but no sound. Any idea what we actually need.
Microsoft Error Code was as helpful as ever...
The other computer is experiencing difficulties, please try again later
Then the help :
Click on Audio to add audio to a conversation

It did mention a half duplex or full duplex sound card. I thought these were standard (full duplex) but any way of finding out ???

Or any other tips ?

Still, I got to wave at my sister....

Re: Webcam Conferencing
Actually I have a great idea!
Tell your sis to go into the VH Forums chat room so you can converse in real time and see her too!

I believe the other person you were talking to, has not the same version of whatever video conferencing software you're using...The full duplex stuff you can find it on the configuration of that software or of the camera...What software are you using?? NetMeeting?? MSN???i could help you more if you tell me...

Re: Webcam Conferencing
We were both using MSN 6.1. I have a Trust WebCam and he has a Logitech FastWeb or WebSNappy something. His gave a real fast frame rate, mine is a little choppy.
Anyway, the webcam is a USB connection, then I use the crappy P.C. mic into my Soublaster Live 1024+ soundcard...
Could see pictures of each other, and type to each other in real time, but no sound.
Everytime we tried to initiate it, we kept getting a "The other compuiter is experiencing difficulties, please try later..."
Audio just would not work no matter who tried to initiate it, or even if we tried to start the audio first. We figured that maybe the webcam was hogging all the bandwidth at first...
Gonna try again with me connecting to another computer, because he had the same problem with someone else...
