Who are you related to?
Is there anyone famous in your family's past? What about someone that just did something interesting and/or monumental.
I don't know his name, but someone in my family is on the Declaration of Independance. I could probably dig it up. As far as I know he never really got well known for anything else. Pretty cool though because I really admire that document and the people who where involved.
My great-grandfather was a pretty brilliant and self educated engineer. Supposedly he invented the Lazy-Boy but it was taken by the company he worked for. Could be family ledgend..I don't know. He worked for Boing as a basic worker and in his spare time calculated what would be saved in materials and fuel of the resulting plane if just two threads where cut off the end of all screws and bolts in the plane. He started working upstairs shortly thereafter. Him and his wife hitched over here from the east in the early 1900's. He wrote a history of the family but I haven't seen a copy since I was like 6...that would be sad if none are left.
On my father's side my grandfather came here from Cornwall as a child. Of course the name Roberts comes from England somewhere I think and has been around forever and is all over the damn place...but I don't know anything much about that side...
Anyway, that is all I know of...how bout you?

I'm pretty sure we're hooked up with John Wayne somewhere along the line. Also a possibility is the guy that did the famous radio broadcast when the Hindenburg. "Oh the humanity!!" He might have been one of ours too, lol.

I'm related to Lincoln, but only by marrige. But it's something! My Mom has all the documents to prove it. So if anyone should get a chance to sleep in the Lincoln Bedroom at the Whitehouse, I think it should be me

The Little Rascals
Yes I said The Little Rascals. I am related to Alfalfa. No kidding... And no my hair doesn't stick up in the back of my head. His name is Carl Dean "Alfalfa" Switzer. And Harry Parker, he was a pitcher mostly for St. Louis Cardinals, Back in the 70's.

HAH, what a tangled web We got someone related to Lincoln, and someone related to the people tried to hide his assassin.
Actually, reading on the internet doesn't show the Garretts knew who they were sheltering and may have just been nice people who let a couple guys sleep in the shed. Do you know either way?

Ya , there really has'nt been a connection between Boothe and the Garretts, I think they just figured he was running from the cops, and hid out in their barn.....

I call bullshit. Before making some half-ass remark about a relative signing the Declaration of Independence, you need to be ready to back it up, my brother.
I want to see some proof.

Supposedly we are related to Kit Carson, mountain man, yada, yada. It is on my mothers side. If you're ever up around Chehalis, Washington, there is the Kit Carson Restaurant, built by my grandmother in honor of the alleged relationship, she was supposed to have proof, but I have never seen it. As far as any other relatioinships, when I was a kid, my mother was convinced I was a direct descendant of the Devil, but alas again I have no proof.

I have the book now and supposedly I am related to Oliver Wolcott. However, that generation of the line looks a little hazy in our line my great grandfather searched for. I haven't been able to link it the way he did. However, I did find this site:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyorlean/mtpluv.htm
That has a Mary Wolcott Underhill who married Eleazer Underhill and had a son George Underhill. All the dates match what I have for these three and this is our link to the Wolcott family. George had a daughter named Anne Jenette who married Edwin Dunlap; looks like Anne died when she was 30 and Edwin remaried a Sara House. They had a son named George Ledlie Dunlap who had a son named David Dunlap, who is my great grandfather.
Also, Oliver Wolcott married a Collins, and that was my great grandmother's maiden name so there could be a double link to him because my grandfather didn't dig up the Collins name much further than a few generations.
The focus of the book I have is of course on the Dunlaps. There was also a John Dunlap in the book who lived during the right time...a John Dunlap (or Dunlop depending on the site you read) printed the Declaration.
