I've been looking for a solution to this on the internet but am finding nothing....

I just upgraded win 98 to XP Pro. I have always been able to defrag in 98 with no problems..I know how to close running programs, etc. I even tried in safe mode but what happens is it hangs forever on 1%. Scan disc runs ok.

I am on a broadband network here at work. If it won't work in "safe mode", is something wrong with this upgrade??
