Just use the search feature. Any show from the Eat 'Em And Smile and Skyscraper tours will have Vai playing some classic VH. Between the two tours, you'll find the following songs...

Unchained
Panama
Pretty Woman
Everybody Wants Some
Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
On Fire
Hot For Teacher
Ice Cream Man Jump
You Really Got Me
Jump

If there was anything else, it wasn't played often (At least, as far as I know)...

I was totally into VAI's playing when he hooked up with Roth. Listening to those shows now is quite odd. His playing was sooo sterile on the Van Halen songs and that probably comes from him being a schooled musician. His tone had no guts to it either. Although he did play some amazing things on Eat Em & Smile he lacked tone and feel during those tours IMO.. And this is coming from a huge fan of Vai's playing. I studied his style for years during the periods.. 1983-1988 I think Vai is a great instrumentalist but not a fantastic "rock" band guitarist.

Yeah, Vai's playing of EVH's stuff has something of an odd feel to it. Bits of it sound more forced than when Eddie plays them.

Anyway, to say something I should have said before, if you can, try and find LA and San Francisco 1986 shows (San Fran is better, IMO), as those are two of the better sounding Eat 'Em And Smile shows. For the Skyscraper shows, look up Tokyo and Osaka 1988, as, again, both are among the best from that tour (One of those is better than the other, but I can't remember which ).

If it helps, some of the songs were only played on certain tours. Unchained, Pretty Woman, and (I think) Everybody Wants Some were only played on the Eat 'Em And Smile Tour. On Fire was played often then, but only rarely on the Skyscraper tour. Hot For Teacher and You Really Got Me were only played on Skyscraper tour, while the rest (Panama, Jump, and Ice Cream Man) were played at pretty much every show.

Well, I had some time, so I went and dug them off of another site.

San Francisco 12-12-86: The best Eat 'Em And Smile show I've heard. There are a few fade outs, and Dave forgets the words of Big Trouble (), but it's of great quality.

Los Angeles 12-20-86: Not as clear as the San Fran show, but still good. Mainly for some varitey. :P

Tokyo 12-07-88: I'm not sure if that's the exact date, but this is the show. Probably the best Skyscraper show, great sound with little AUD noise.

Osaka 9-22-88: Another good one from the Skyscraper tour. Sound is good, but not as clear as Tokyo. Still worth a listen.

There are some others I remember (Uniondale 1988 is very good oen), but IMO, those four are probably the best and should cover everything you'll need.

The Toronto 1986 show is that same title.. It's already posted in this thread so you can grab it.

uh, after listening to 'sex and religion', there's no question in my mind that he's an instrumentalist and not a rock-band guitarist. his tone and songwriting are horrible, and even his technique is somewhat sloppy.

thank's for the shows, i actually think tha Vai made a nice job covering EVH songs, but in this case and in alcatrazz he had to adapted his tecnique to fit malmsteen and van halen solos and not sound like them... something not to easy to achive...

and sex & religion is one of my favorite albums... "SLOPPY?"... i guess that you never heard rescue me or bury me... that solo (as almost all the guitar work on that cd) is anything but sloppy, andthe songwriting it's furious...
