Listen to this Guitar Solo

Not gonna leave this up for very long, cuz I need the space for other stuff, but this is a Randy Rhoads guitar solo from his Double CD Chronology - Disc 1. Source was a July show from the Blizzard Of Oz tour.

Listen to it. A few short snippets should strike you in the face like a ballpeen hammer. Hmm...what show is this? On top of that, it's pretty damn good. I dig Randy... it's a shame what happened - he coulda been a great.

Anyway, since this is a guitar place and all... and since a bunch of us are guitar players... I figured you might enjoy a guitar solo - Even if it ain't THE man. Maybe the Right Hand Man?? Hmm. Since we KNOW who the King is...Who WOULD you pick to be Edwards right hand man? aaah... that's a different thread in a different place.

Ok, enjoy folks

Whooooo
What might have been indeed.
This is very strong and much enjoyabe indeed.
My right hand man for Eddie would have be a strong rhythm player with excellent chops...Doesn't hve to have the flash but needs the strengthb to keep it straight while Ed goes a noddling.....Malcom Young (ACDC) Left field I know but listen to any ACDC record and it is Malcom that keeps the riff going while young Angus rips over him. And he is an Aussie too!
A backbone if I ever saw one. (No more broken penis pics please!)

Thats my thoughts.
Thanks for the tune.

That's really cool. I love the live guitar solo!!! I this awesome EVH solo from around 1984, but I don't have the space to put it up (it's around 15 mins). It has this killer blues jam that he and Alex do. Eddie also does bits of the Jaws theme in it!

Re: Listen to this Guitar Solo

Randy Rhoads could play circles around everybody in his time!
He was more of a schooled musiciancs, which explains how him and EVH differ.
There was a method to Randy's madness, while Eddie plays like he's falling off the stairs and lands on his feet.

I love these two guitarists more than I can say,..

Yeah, Ed used to use that exact phrase back in the day. He also used it to describe a young Cream as well. Quite a bit of truth to it... a lot of improvisation.

I agree, Randy was much more technical than anyone else... my question is: Does that mean he can play circles around everyone else, or does it just mean that he can probably play cleaner than everyone else?

Re: Listen to this Guitar Solo

I saw him on the 1979 Blizzard tour (might have been '80-my brain is shrinking these days!) and he was out there on his own. The only guy who was doing a similar thing-and hear it before making a comment-was Gary Moore on the G-Force album where he was trying to be Eddie without a shadow of a doubt...nearly pulled it off except for his godawful tone!

Randy wasn't really clean-he had great classical chops but he didn't play in the style of either Blackmore or Malmsteen. He used them to compose with rather than dominate his style. He could rock out with the best!

The guy who replaced him in the first instance; Bernie Torme...would have been awesome if he'd have stuck it out. Just listen to his solo on Gillan's 'Mr Universe' and you'll see he had a raw Hendrix like vibe.

That's one thing I wish I had a chance to see. I'm only 25, and I've been into VH since I was YOUNG... I never had the chance to see Randy cuz he was gone before I was even 5. Other than studio stuff, I haven't heard much Randy's playing. Only thing I have that isn't a studio album is a bootleg from 81, so I can't really make much observation, other than what I hear from the store-bought CD's. I do know that he had a true musical background and was playing from the time he was very young, but other than that, I don't even know that much about him.

I need to brush up, break down, and start getting some of his material, cuz I've never been let down by anything I've ever heard him play. Still wish I coulda had a chance to see him... With Ozzy or not.
