"Rockin' Into The Night" - Osaka, Japan 1978
Ok guys... I've wanted to post this one a couple of times, but there always seems to be something else on the posting agenda, so I'm gonna toss 'em up here now. This was a fantastic performance that doesn't seem to get around too much. I don't know the exact date of the show (neither does Ron at VHBoots, apparently)... There were two shows in Osaka for the VHI tour... one on June 25th at Festival Hall, and one on June 27th at Kosei Nenkin Hall. Nothing is said during the show to help you distinguish which date the show may be, at least not that I'm aware of. You can read some other notes about it here: http://www.vhboots.com/rockin.html. If anyone can shed some light onto which of the two dates this show is, I'd greatly appreciate it!
Anyway, as I said, fantastic performance... Dave has his moments, but that's just Dave It sounded like a fun show, lots of energy, and very raw...even for 1978. Only downfall is that the sound quality on this recording doesn't quite live up to the energy level of the show. Sounds a little hollow, and there are definately some frequency cuts on both high and low ends. If you're new to bootlegs and collecting, this one may sound bunk to you. Keep it around anyway... when it comes to VH bootlegs, you learn to ignore the quality issues after a while I enjoy this one thoroughly, dispite the obvious qualities the recording lacks... I hope you guys do too. Just another show to hear when our boys were just getting rollin'.

You're welcome bro... hope you enjoy it
No, we don't know the actual date of the show... although, as I said above, I've got it narrowed down to 6/25 or 6/27 of 1978... I just can't pinpoint which of the two it is.

Very cool. I think I'll post the other Japan 78 show, just so folks can have them both. Good work on the pics too bro. I see you're learning from the General.

Far as I’m concerned, Eddie’s the complete package. Technique aside, his rhythm playing, feel, songwriting, tone, riffs, leads, man, it’s all there. It’s like the best-tasting beer you ever drank in your life! ~Zakk Wylde

This show was one of the most requested by my class Evh.
(courtesy of a package from Ohio)
The class did some research on vhtrade.com to clarify the dates as well.
They came up with the same dates as you. The boys have been using the trade site and the vhboots.com site to date the shows that didn't come with the information. It was a great way to instigate a little on-line research for the boys. On holidays now and I am at at my new cafe d/loading the Houston 2004 show. Hope all is well with you mate.

Awesome collection of boots - thank you very much for sharing!! I noticed something rather interesting about one of the cuts in particular. In Ain't Talkin Bout Love Ed's guitar was tuned to a standard E instead of the usual half-step down.

You're welcome guys! Glad ya' like it.
I noticed the difference in tuning as well, Raven... There are a few boots from 1978 where Ed plays around with the tuning a little bit. If I'm not mistaken, there's also a version of Unchained from 83 sometime where he doesn't play it with a dropped D... He performed it well, but it just didn't have the same impact... wasn't as mean or crunchy.
Neat to hear things done differently though

Ok guys, lets see if I can help out with the date here. Here are the Japan 78 dates, per the official site
06/17/78 Tokyo, JP Kosei Nenkin Hall
06/19/78 Tokyo, JP Kosei Nenkin Hall
06/21/78 Tokyo, JP Nakono Sun Plaza Hall
06/22/78 Tokyo, JP Nakono Sun Plaza Hall
06/24/78 Nagoya, JP Nagoya-Shi Kokaido
06/25/78 Osaka, JP Festival Hall
06/26/78 Kyoto, JP Kyoto Kaikan Hall
06/27/78 Osaka, JP Kosei Nenkin Hall
Now, they played 2 different shows in Osaka and its doubtful Dave would say the name of the venue so we have to listen for clues about the date. I have an Osaka show and Dave raps about this being the "last show in Japan" so that indicates its the 6/27 show. I haven't listened to this particular boot yet, but listen to Dave's raps since it appears as though the set list was the same.
If I get the time, I'll compare this boot to my 6/27 show.
