18 - Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love 1of2

Note: This track is split into two parts... this post (part one) fades out at the end. For a long time, I couldn't figure out why anyone would have done this, but then it dawned on me that the fade occurs almost exactly at the 90 minute mark in the show. My assumption is that they recorder's tape ended and had to be switched.

This is kind of annoying, but a small price to pay for such an incredible show.

Wow, thanks! I was 13 in '88 but there was no way I would've been allowed to go to that show. My first VH was 1993 at what used to be Starlake. Since you are a "local" guy too, do you have any good Roth era stuff from Pittsburgh? Or the 1993 show at Starlake? I have the 1998 VH tour with Gary in Pittsburgh. I think it would be sweet to have one of each singer in the 'Burgh.

No problem man, glad ya' like it! Yeah, like I said, I was lucky. My older sister was always really responsible, and my parents trusted her a lot. She wasn't allowed to go the the 5150 show in 86 by herself...that's why they went with her... but they let her go in 88, and I BEGGED to go. The lawn was my home for that night. Having listened to the 5150 material for 2 years after seeing that concert... then hearing the new OU812 album and seeing the show... the seeds of VH were planted in me from a young age.

I'll have to look and see what all I have from Starlake and Three Rivers... I'm at work right now and only brought the couple of shows that I wanted to get uploaded for you guys.

I'm pretty sure I have another Sam show or two from Pitt... and at least one Roth show... Maybe more. If I find some more stuff, I'll get up for ya' BTW, I'm not trying to bring you down, but I think if you check... your Gary show is not from Pittsburgh. The tracks were probably taken from the "Unchained Monsters" bootleg that was being circulated... It's a great boot, but a lot of people heard Gary mention Pennsylvania, and assumed it was from Pitt... in all actuality, it's from Star Ampitheater in Hershey PA. To my knowledge, there is no known recording of VH in Pittsburgh from 1998

Ok... last track guys!

You're welcome guys! This early Sammy material always amazes me... They're so tight and together, yet so loose and crazy... It's a pure contradiction, but they do it. It's chaotic and fast, and Ed's all over the place... but nobody misses a beat... they're all right there together. Just awesome!

EVH 5150, you're are waaaaay toooo generous for sharing this!! I saw this tour in LA at the Coliseum (where USC plays football). Metallica was on fire, Dokken ripped, but VH SLAYED.
thank you!!

Thanks, I was at this show. Was going to a technical school on the West End (right across the bridge from 3 Rivers Stadium) in the summer of 88. A few of us from school went.

Chad
Hope that beer went down well. I have had a few today and the sun shines so much better through the beer glass on a hot, sunny Sydney day.
I'm on an all nighter on this one.
The Largo and Souncheck will be next.
I will definitely give these shows some rotation in the classroom. Already the boys are digging the US Festival show and the Miracle Fingers shows. Now I have two more classics to pass on to the next generation of fans.

And yes, here is what a boy said to me on Friday after I gave him the Dallas Free Show video file....

Life is Good
Life is Grand
Music is the best
When it starts with Van!

(and his wasn't talking Morrison either)
Thanks mate. I'll let you know how I get on with these three.
