Van Halen - Philips Arena - Atlanta, GA 10.02.2008

notes from the taper ! :

It's been a while since I posted a new show. This is my first torrent that I have made since my DAT M1 went D.O.A. on me and I decided to make the jump to a digital wave recorder. I chose to go with the ZOOM H2 since it was what I could afford and if I decided that recording on a "soundcard" wasn't for me I wouldn't be out of a lot of money. As I monkey around trying to find out what works best for me I submit this recording for your consideration! Since this is a "seemless" wave file recording I split the show at the end of "I'll Wait" as there is a few seconds between it and the next song "And The Cradle Will Rock" and it also starts the 2nd disc off with a "bang" but can be enjoyed as an uncut concert.

Enjoy!

Indeed, I can't believe that you took "The Govner's" recording and re-encoded it to mp3 just to share.......it would seem alot of people here get stuff from DaD, TTD, Yeeshkul and such and then convert it to a lossy format which downloaders are asked "NOT to do"....just to have things to share.....no wonder why alot of the stuff I see here looks familiar. Lossy mp3 encodes are meant for personal use only, Lossless is for trading and sharing...not a difficult concept.

....this should be pulled.

Okay,

Here it is plainly then...if the uploader here is a member of the site that he/she got this from and they get CAUGHT sharing a lossless upload in a lossy format....just LIKE this one...they can get banned ESPECIALLY since the original uploader requested such and this person ignored the request.

if the original poster requested it I agree.......but once its out there, my only point is if somebody wants to repost (even if lesser quality) hey its out there.......so call him out on it and have the original poster re-post the better quality version or something. Just trying to keep everything calm.......but I have posted ORIGINAL stuff twice and then found that somebody has taken it and changed it (for better or worse) and put it on other sites........what can I do? I put it out there right?

Just my opinion, so please nobody get fired up, its not intended to make anybody angry.

This torrent comes from DaD....a lossless/no retail only tracker...you have to be a member to download torrents there as it's private. The person that recorded this show and shared it there is a member there. They don't like their torrents being being re-encoded for "public" sharing. If you encode to mp3 for personal use as in iPod or CDr for the car they don't mind...but they request that you share as you got it when it comes to this type of sharing....I've sent TheGovner a pm already as I am a member there as well and this shouldn't be happening, especially from another member who downloaded it from there and shared it elsewhere like this.

I wasn't trying to be a jerk but it makes me mad when I see this as it shows a lack of care and respect to the original taper...Van Halen's music belongs to them but the person that recorded and prepared this deserves some as well.

That's all I was saying....loudly, I guess.

I appreciate the explaination, I too was not trying offend. My only point (and again I agree I guess that should not be happening) but this is the internet and once something gets out.....well you know what I mean. So no more replies from me on this.....sorry to all

I'm done as well...if the community is okay with this then so be it. I will let the mods @ DaD deal with it as they see appropriate. I've said what I had to say and if folks are enjoying this as it is, glad to hear it.

Cheers

Jetrell69, It's much easier for people to burn from mp3 as most programs accept it as opposed to flac, but if is re-encoded to a minimum of 192 or higher, then overall it's not a bad sound whatsoever plus the fact to upload it in flac would take the better part of an afternoon to do. As for myself I would rather someone get the whole show in one download as opposed to 4 or more files for the same show. If people have a free account, they sometimes have to wait hours just to get it as RS will more than likely have you wait 1 perhaps 2 hours before you can download another part. I fully understand that the taper goes to all the trouble of uploading the show (In Flac or SHN), which of course is great and allows people to have a listen to a venue or perhaps visit a country that more than likely they will never ever see in their lifetime. In short, Kudo's to all the tapers who risk everythig just getting the gear inside, but then again, isn't that what the internet is all about ... sharing no matter the format.

I also posted it on Jam To This which is a free account website. It's attitudes like yours ("sharing no matter the format") is why more people hoard their shows instead of sharing! If you don't want to preserve the "integrity" of the original recording then why the fuck do we have to share it? I could care less how much time it takes for you to download and burn it because I went to a lot of effort to upload it in the first place!

Crying about it is a waste of time because it's all about "sharing".....
