IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE MP3 MONTHLY COMPETITION.

First things first – we have decided to post all the upcoming themes for 2006. this should give everyone enough time to get their entries ready. But please do not post entries before the competition is due many thanks.

May 2006: Backer Challenge*: for this competition everybody gets to choose one of a selection of 2 backers. MP3’s are only to be posting during May 2006. The poll will be put in place on the last day on the month and people will have 2 weeks to vote. *backers to be uploaded shortly.

June 2006: Acoustic Month: To add a bit of variety we decided to make June and acoustic month. If you don’t have an acoustic then use an acoustic patch or sound on your electric. This can be a cover or an original but the main guitar motif has to be acoustic. MP3’s are only to be posting during June 2006. The poll will be put in place on the last day on the month and people will have 2 weeks to vote.

July 2006: Harmony/Twin Leads: Original or cover but it has to have some harmony guitars (think Thin Lizzy, Priest, Maiden etc.) MP3’s are only to be posting during July 2006. The poll will be put in place on the last day on the month and people will have 2 weeks to vote.

August 2006: Covers: this is a covers only month! Aside from that anything goes

MP3’s are only to be posting during August 2006. The poll will be put in place on the last day on the month and people will have 2 weeks to vote.

September 2006: Van Halen Month: Do your best Eddie impression Month. This can be in the style of, or a VH cover. MP3’s are only to be posting during September 2006. The poll will be put in place on the last day on the month and people will have 2 weeks to vote.

October 2006: Halloween Theme: Scary Music time – Originals or covers but it has to be tied in with the Halloween theme. MP3’s are only to be posting during October 2006. The poll will be put in place on the last day on the month and people will have 2 weeks to vote.

November 2006: Gone in 60 Seconds!: has only 2 rules: -

One guitar only and No backing.
It has to be 60 seconds or shorter.

This can be your best solo piece, or a short acoustic piece or even a cover of a guitar solo but you must stick to the rules

It can be MP3’s are only to be posting during November 2006. The poll will be put in place on the last day on the month and people will have 2 weeks to vote.

December 2006: Christmas Songs: covers or originals about the “holiday season” (or Christmas as it was once known

) MP3’s are only to be posting during December 2006. The poll will be put in place on the last day on the month and people will have 2 weeks to vote.

NOW FOR THE SERIOUS BIT

This competition is supposed to be fun – there is no cash prize... just a little mp3 winner logo put under your name. So play fair and it will continue to be fun. 99.9% of people on this board already do this and we thank them for their honesty and integrity.

However for the 0.1% that have tried to swing/rig the vote we have decided to spell out some basic ground rules which take effect as of today.

Soliciting votes from other users. This has to stop. Anyone sending private messages asking other members to vote is not acceptable behaviour. Anyone caught doing this will be removed from the competition and receive a time limited ban. So please don’t even bother trying.

Please don’t vote for yourselves. If you vote for your entry it defeats the point of the competition. No-one likes to get zero but some of the best players on this board have all suffered the same result. Please just vote for the best entry out of the other contestants. Thank you.

Respect other voters decisions. Just because they didn’t vote for you doesn’t mean you can pm them and give them a hard time. This is aggressive behaviour that has happened in the past. Remember – the competition is just a bit of harmless fun guys.

Voting with fake accounts. We CAN see who voted and we can also trace ip addresses. We have banned 2 people for life for doing just this. They didn’t realise we could see their details and argued and argued. In the end they admitted they were caught.

No bad language in songs – the site operates under a PG13 policy. So please no XXX rated Lyrics

There are more but I hope that you get the gist of all this – we want the competition to remain friendly and fun for all. Many thanks for your understanding.

Is it possible to have 2 seperate catorgories for each one ie orginal and covers. Its alot harder to write a song than to play someone elses

Any chance we can see some of the themes for upcoming months in 2007? Be good to see what's coming up because I'm as likely to spend as much time thinking of a song for a certain theme as I am recording it lol.

I will try to get all the themes for the year posted soon. Working on it.
As for cover/original, there will be a whole bunch of originals only competitions this year.

man i don't understand this whole concept of mp3 of the month ,....
there are some 2 or three posts in the main forum for feb entries ..... which one is it
and how do i join for feb .... or march perhaps

Hey Blackwing - if you are going to enter the feb competition - you need to have your entry posted in the Monthly mp3 contest forum by the last day of the month - ie... if you want to enter a love song in the feb competition - you need to post your entry by the 28th feb - next weds - for it to be included in the vote!

...btw - the march comp hasnt been announced yet - i know naifuzan was working on the themes for each month - but i dont think anything has been finalised... but i am sure nai will keep us posted !.... i imagine he will announce march when he posts the feb vote thread
