A Ballad.... well kinda....

Here's a tune I did a while back. It was one of the first things I did after I started playing again. About 10 months ago actually.

One of those unusual moments when I actually heard the whole song in my head.... That hardly ever happens for me. It was done on a Fostex 8 track, I was using an Ibanez equiped with Evo's, and the modeler was a Digitech RP100A. The drums were actually just one of the metronome setings off the Digitech as well.

I was also just lightly, and slowly moving a wah pedal (no drastic movements, just barely moving it at all in fact).... had it about in the middle, and just kinda slowly rocked just to give the tone a little shimmer. I called it "Over The Edge" because I works the heck outta the Edge trem bar on the Ibanez. Hope you guys enjoy it

this is just lovely . i have always felt that a ballad should be complete bliss to listen to and because of that it should be repetitive but not to the extreme . you struck the fine balance very well and the tones used are perfect for ballads . i apply the same sort of idea to my own ballads which i create by the fucking hundreds haha almost . you should enter this in the march contest .. its for ballads after all . im gonna be entering with metaljonus if he ever gets a bloody move on doing the drums so we can start doing the guitar . great stuff again bro . sounds great . great playing . and hey if you want some good patches for your RP100 throw me a PM

Thanks for all the kind words! Dannyboy, I'll PM you, I have a few myself, but it's always cool to expand the tone horizons.

radartony, what is the MP3 contest about? (Sorry.... I'm still a noob... ) I've been there and looked around, but haven't quite figured it out.

sgstd, I'm in Reno.... a touch further north than you... We're the Nevada place with the smaller buildings...

Rid, I'm workin on a few.... in my advanced years, it seems fun to tear it up, but I find myself trying to be a little more expressive. Kinda tryin' to create moods and atmospere...

btw, I have been listening to what I can, but I'm a bit handicapped technologywise. I'm still on dialup, so it takes an eternity to dload a file of more than 2 megs or so.
But I will be on dsl here in a week and a half or so, and I'll be listenenin' like a madman.

Again, thanks to all of you for the time you took to listen, and comment.

Cheers!

J

MT Killer tune man!
Great playing, very expressive and loaded with subtle little phrasing bits!
Something that I know I have not spent enough time on in my return to the instrument. Also keeps making me want to go out and buy an RP100 or 200 again as well.....I swear to God, that mine didn't have tones like that in it! LOL

Simply beautiful expressive bar work Joe King, both on lead and rhythm. If there was a ballad contest, this should have been entered
