Naifuzan September Entry - Children Of Bodom - Hate Me!
So, I guess I'm gonna post the first entry of the month!
Loved this idea, so I went to work as soon as the clips were posted.
This is a death metal song, I guess you can call it, that I did in sort of a classic rock style.
I didn't really rearrange the tune, just changed the tones and the tempo is ofcourse a lot slower than the original. Some small changes to the playing, but not that many.
Didn't really know what to do with the vocals, since the original has growling and not that much melody most of the time. I did... something. Waddaya think?
I guess that most people here haven't heard the original, so if you wanna get a taste of how it sort of sounds, I have made a cover that's more faithful to the origial a while back. Still the original is more intense and a lot better. Anyway, you can stream my first cover here.
If it doesnt work you can also reach it through the link in my signature, just look for "Hate Me! (Children of Bodom)" on that page.
Very fun competition idea this month, and I hope there'll be more entries soon. Good Luck everyone!

Way to go, Naif! You are a faithful participant and supporter of the MP3 of the Month contest. I appreciate your enthusiasm and thanks for getting your entry up here. Unfortunately I left my headphones at home (again ), so I will be sure to check this out when I get home tonight. Looking forward to checking it out!
P.S. I like the fact that you included a link to the original version. That helps listeners guage the degree of morphing that you incorporated.

Gee thanks, DB. Naif didn't seem to have any problem with it. Maybe it is just you. Perhaps you should pick the topic next month. The odd thing is.....the feedback that I get regarding the recent themes is extremely positive and people seem very interested and excited about it. However the turnout seems to not always reflect that. Please also keep in mind that we are not very far into the contest, since I did not get the beats up until about 3 days ago.
Despite your doubt that people might not care enough to enter, I have faith that we have enough creative people around here who are up for the challenge. I also do not see this task as being as hard as you may think. So get working on your entry!

Now that´s creativity Nai I´m pretty sure I can´t put up with the original, Death is just not for me, but I really liked this one, and you can see there´s a lot of work in it. Great job mixing the drum loops too, that should a be pretty tough task. Also liked that smooth vibe the song has.

Nice job! Very interesting how you came up with the idea to make this kind of a version of the song. Really good playing, and as bleedingpinky said it has a nice smooth vibe. Really enjoyed this one. PS What do you think of the new Bodom album?

Well I decided that the best approach to listening to this first entry was to check out the original first. I got halfway through it and was like, "where's the singer?" And then I was like, "oh yeah, this was Naif's cover of it." Wow, dood, this is great as it is. You have been scoring a lot of respect from me lately with your playing and also your production. This sounds top notch. It has an Iron Maiden flavor to it, but also perhaps Dream Theater during the middle section before the lead, which about took my head off!!! Your leadwork is freaking fantastic (controlled, fluid, but expressive). This tune is an excellent accomplishment of guitar playing and recording.
Now on to listening to your morphed cover....
Well, as far as embodying the point of this contest, I have to give you an A+. You used all 4 beats (not that you would have too, but your original has a lot of parts, so it warranted using them all) and made your song work with the beats, and quite naturally. I think it is so interesting that chord progressions can take on such different feels just by changing up the tempo or drum beat style (or even by re-interpretting it using a different instrument), and this tune made a nice transformation. This is really a great recording and takes it into a late 70s/early eighties vibe for me, ala Blue Oyster Cult. i love your just slightly dirty guitar tone. It is heavy. And that slowed down part near the end is a really powerful change up in the song. Great entry dood. I love it.
