'Rise'
I decided to do something a little different for this and use the guitar to tell a narrative. I thought the 'gone in 60 seconds' was metaphoric for the rise of humans on this planet and how we have come from the dark reaches of time into this technological supernaut. (Im not commenting on whether we have evolved well or not though

)
The playing was done in 1 take and while not a particularly melodic piece I still tried to express a few technical skills. There are certainly effects but no backing.
The 1st 10 seconds isn't even technically played - I bang the guitar against a wooden table and then rise up the whammy bar, before some pick srapes - its our evolution from the premordial animal soup into the world of fire and exploration. The next 10 seconds or so is when we start banging around with simple tools, marked on guitar with some percussive tapping and 'cave like' echoes. The shaman within us is born. This escalates somewhat and then suddenly starts bursting with skill in a meanstreets style VH tapping sequence marking our mastery of simple technologies like stone, iron, bronze ages etc. The tapping then shoots into a more melodic, clean and precise tapping dance. Its a fanfare meant to represent the golden age (when so many wonders were built to symbolize this like the pyramids, angkor wat, mayan temples etc). The tapping then goes into darker notes representing the dark ages, religous confusion and barbarianism. The tapping then starts shooting all over the place crazy as I use lots of tapping sliding and a heavy phase - this represents another change through the renaissance and scientific thinking etc - all excellerating up into the industrial revolution, when a true
guitar solo comes in and finally I use the pick (to represent the machine) instead of organic tapping with flesh and bone fingers. The guitar solo at the end then morphes into an ascending
chord progression for the ending - basically the chords represent the 20th century rising up until today and the chords also represent the world's cultures coming together (colonialism, globalism, internet etc).
Anyway it was an attempt at something different, harder than I thought but fun to have a go at!
Cheers
