September VH Cover Competition Eruption
I figured what the heck. Here is my submission for the September Competition. I figured if I missed a note or two, I added them in the begining. Thanks for listening!
I did the solo with my new EVH Bumblebee Charvel and my 5150II head.

You are the first person I've heard to get that first ascending run correct on the machine gun part. That was a nice surprised for me, very cool!

Sounds great man. That little speed run at the start is sweet. I have to see your new EVH Bumblebee Charvel.

Thanks Strat78, Tzer, and Jose (voodooguitars), I really appreciate the feedback. I guess we all consider this forum our "stage" for feedback.

there is smoke billowing from my computer.....I second strat's comment on that ascending run....HOW DO YOU DO THAT? If its played the way I have tried to play it, then it may never happen for me because my fingers just arent long enough, or dont seperate in the right place to hit all those notes from the 14th to the 20th fret. I'am trying to figure out the most convincing way I can try and cheat that part but get it close. sounded awesome!

That style of playing must be your fort'e, I just spent 2 hours on just that 2 second part. And 4 hours yesterday just on improving parts of eruption. My knuckles are sore today.....that is a first. And it has to be from trying to play that part. I can get the spread, but, that 2 seconds I feel is going to take me 100's of hours. my fingers dont naturally do that But Im up for it......hats off you have obviously paid the dues to get that good. I was working on it with my recorder and I had it keep repeating that same part from eddies original 2 seconds, 2 seconds, etc....then I got online to listen to yours and see if I could possibly hear what was going on better.
yours is faster!! any exercises you have done to develop that style, I would be interested. Overall, it is definitely an entry that should stay close.

Well as EVH is the reason for me playing, I've always listened to his solos as a song in itself. I was able to pick a note here and there and finally put whatever I thought I heard backtogether. Sometimes it sounded like I was on but most of the time my own flavor of playing rose up. With this solo after 20 years of only listening to it, I definitly stretched my fingers to the brink of permenant disfigurement but got as close to it as I could.
Keep stretching and you'll get it.

Well, why even try to compete now? That was phenomenal.

Me, I like guitar. I like loud squeals and pinch harmonics that only dogs can hear, tapping that would redefine what Fred Astaire popularized, sweeping that would make a janitor jealous, and most importantly great melodic HOOKS (like the greatest hook writers of all time Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson). Singing is not a requirement.

Nice Job
I like that you added your own flair to the solo but still kept to the spirit of the tune. Nice playing

Thank you Culpster and JPF.
I definitly think everyone here should add their own "flavor" to their covers. For one, it changes it up a bit and two, shows the rest of us a little bit of their guitar personality.
