Hello all. I wanted to share this technique that works on all tremolos,,, even the floyd rose style tremolos.. I have a fender american strat that I play. It has a standard floating tremolo. When i would go to use the bar to do dive bombs or any type of bar stuff,, my g string and b string would go out of tune. Well ,, someone told me to take them strings and where the string retainers are on the top surface of the guitar,, to let them strings float freely and not to have them under the retainers. well I tried it and this truly works. You can even ask eddieman2003 from this site. He has a guitar with a floyd rose tremolo and his guitar was going out of tune when he was trying to do the bar stuff in the solo to beat it. i told him to do this technique and now,, he can do all the bar stuff and them strings will stay in tune. Just a little tip I wanted to pass along to other guitarists.
it's weird though my floyd rose system just never goes out of tune .. and i mean EVER .. i tune my guitar maybe once a month ... and don't think i'm just slack and tone def lol cause i use it every day in rehearsals and along to tuners and everything and it just never gives .. no matter how many whammy dives i do ... i've never really understood the floyd rose like that ?
well you have a real floyd, i have a floyd rose II piece of shit. its inbetween the regular one and the real floyd. this technique worked great but my guitar is being gay so i hardly use the bar. my next guitar im gonna get a real one!
I've got the ibanez edge on my rg. It never goes out of tune thanks to the locking nut. What's the point of string retainers on guitars without locking nuts?
The unit on my Wolf Standard never goes out tune, no matter what... I feel very lucky. I only compensate tuning for changes in temperature but all strings pretty much stay in tune with one another.
i love the floyd but i don't think i'll ever buy another ... the whole locking thing annoys teh crap out of me ... and every time i'm performing i shitting my pants thinking that if i break one string my guitars gonna be so out of tune i won't be able to continue then it's at least 5-10 minutes to replace ... i've played performances on my les paul where i've broken strings and i could continue pretty mcuh all set without a string but i simply couldn't do that with a floyd ...
originally i wanted one also for alot of bar work but i'm getting a bit sick of the bar anyway and i can't chuck one of those EVH D-tuners on it cause it has to be a floyd like on the wolfgangs not one like mine !
Whammy's piss me off too as I have the stripey Kramer (that ia a piece of shit!) and just looking at the whammy with intent makes it go out of tune and thats an original floyd...the issue is in the neck NOT the trem. The Wolfgang is great but has a tendency to break strings down near where they are clamped in. Lastly, my old strat doesn't have one and it would kill her if I routed her out for one so I use the whammy II from Digitech for about 40 minutes of material and it works fine except it ties you down at parts of the song to be standing next to it when you wanna divebomb etc. Not good! Thanks for the tip by the way Scott-it makes sense if you think about it...the less places the strings are touching must make for a more straight forward route and less things to get in the way.
