Dumb question: Wolfgang, Wolfgang special or Wolfgang QT

Maybe this is the dumbest question on the board:

What is exactly the difference between a Wolfgang, a Wolfgang Special and a Wolfgang QT.

I saw a Wolfgang QT in a very nice price segment.......

So what's the deal.....

Standard is the first model made. It has an archtop (like a Les Paul)
Standard has a birdseye maple neck with the headstock titled back.
Special is a guitar with a flat top and often without decorative binding (although not always). It has a hard rock maple neck that has the headstock in line with the neck
The QT is a option availabale on all models, replacing the Floyd Rose-type trem sytem with a stop tail piece (like a Les Paul.)
I could go on for days on the subject, but this is the just of it.

Mine's a Korean model...sings like a bird. I reckon you should just try a guitar, regardless of where it's made and, if it speaks to you and you can make it talk...it's the one! My prize guitar is a 1986 Squier that cost me £50 at a party 15 years ago...I'd be lost without it. Try em all and pick the one that you feel is best-I'm sure guys who work for Gibson have off days and hangovers!!!!

You are correct about everything except the QT. QT is the Korean made one. ST is the stop tailpiece. There is also a deluxe model as well that is available on specials and standards. Basically it just adds a quilt or flame top to it. [img]images/smilies/icon_thumb1.gif[/img]

Just a clarification...The QT is a Wolfie Special with a Quilted Maple Top. It is basically the same guitar as the special with this really nice looking quit top on it. It also has a faux binding effect around the edge. Its kind of a bridge between your full fledged Wolf Standard and the more stripped down and economical Special.

I own a QT and it is an awesome guitar. It looks like guitars that cost $500 MORE than this one! It plays like a dream and sounds killer. To my knowledge the electronics are the same in all models and the primary difference is in the cosmetics and the arch top of the standard which tends to give a fatter sound.

In short:
The QT is a cheaper (Korean) made Wolfgang with the same electronics. The tone could be a little less fat...

But for the money it is a nice guitar.....

wahwah pretty much hit the nail on the head here !.. Just try the guitars out. Figure out how much you can pay for a guitar, then play all the ones in your price range, walk away with the one that you like the best. As easy as...

As for the differences :

Standard

• Arched Top
• Binding
• Birdseye Maple Neck
• Mother of Pearl Tuners
• Volume and Tone knobs
• Angled Headstock

Special

• Flat Top
• Some models have binding
• Hardrock Maple Neck
• Chrome Tuners
• Volume Knob only - no Tone Knob
• No angled Headstock
• Generally cheaper then the Standard

QT / EXP

• Korean Made, not USA made (some people make a big deal out of this)
• Has a quilted top, but it is not a real quilt, it is a photograph of a quilt job that has been placed under the sealing
• Apart from that, it looks identical to the Specials (only a Volume knob, no Tone knob)
• Uses cheaper parts I guess, which makes it fuck loads cheaper than the other two.
• Generally regarded as a shite guitar. But personally, I think that this is bollocks. wahwah owns one, and the only difference I could tell was that it was a little heavier than my Special. wahwah made it sing that night using a Line6 pedal through a 5150. Enough said !

Of course, you can get the Standard and Specials with various options such as Flametops, different necks, but this is the basics of it.

Peavey used to have all of the specifications on their website, but they don't anymore, which is annoying...

The Wolfgang QT EXP has no photoflame top. It is a veneer top so it will not influence the sound.
