Heya Ferret, welcome to the world or guitar playing
Its a hobby/obsession that will be with you forever mate
ok as to your question I can provide a few ideas and offer some guidance for you on this one.
I would suggest you first try http://www.licklibrary.com this is an absoutely awsome site with an amazing download area (around 16GB of downloadable lessons) which costs a very small subscription of £39 every 6 months.
Content is updated quite regularily and this covers stuff from all over the spectrum of difficulty, BUT the lessons are shown in a note by note video demonstration which makes it alot easier to understand.
Also they have a wonderful store full of lots and lots of their DVD's for different artists, as well as technique lessons.
Easy Rock Songs available for download from there:
ACDC - Back In Black
ACDC - Whole Lotta Rosie
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
etc.
Check it out and enjoy
Pete

ferret, there are a ton of video lessons out there...(youtube,google,yahoo)
If you are taking lessons then I assume you are already learning the chords and how to change from one to the other....
as for easy songs...there are many for the beginner
most ac/dc songs
already gone-eagles
smoke on the water- deep purple(everyone learns that one...LOL)
seven nation army..
ect....
as you learn the patterns and note and train your hearing you will pick up different songs as you go, and it helps if you lije the songs that you are trying to learn....
and the key is practice, practice, practice, practice!!!!!

Ferret,
Welcome the to magical land of Guitar. Just remember, everytime a chord is strum, an angel bangs their head
Check out some Judas Priest, especially their early stuff like Livin' After Midnight, Breakin' the Law, and Another Thing Comin'. Real basic guitar riffs but extremely powerful. First song I learned was Livin' After Midnight. Still playing it 20 some years later.
Again, welcome to guitar and have fun.

If i may give you a tip, try playing a song you know of by heart...This way you will also learn WHEN to change chords. The problem to get "easy" songs, sometimes aint that "easy" at all, because now you first need to learn the song

Try

All Right Now - Free
Maybe I'm A Leo - Deep Purple
Go and have lessons for 6 to 12 months. Learn to read music, it will only do you good. Practice, practice, practice. There is no short cuts. Play with other
musicicans.
