Equipment for a 8 year old

My son has asked for a guitar as a birthday gift. he is turning 8 and has been beating strings with a First Act acoustic since he was 3. I am looking for some good advice here. I was thinking a Fender Esq and a amp package for about $150.00.

Any suggestions?

That's a difficult call with the packaged deals out there. I would advise playing anything you are going to buy him first......

The Fender package is a good way to go....Good set,not to much money,and will last till he wants to get his hands on that '52 Tele.

Yes, the Squier Strat and amp package would be a good idea for a beginner, and if he sticks with it for a few years, a good next step would be a Fender or an Epiphone.
