Back to the original question about the EBMM and Wolfie comparison...
I own each. I have a '95 Natural EBMM (I think it might be one of the last production runs made, I dated it through
Ernie Ball at October 15, 1995 which was well after Eddie announced he was going with Peavey...I digress). I also have a 1997 Gold top Wolfgang standard. I'm not an expert, so take all of this as personal opinion. As far as feel, the necks feel similar, but I think the EBMM has a different radius or something. It almost makes the neck width of the EBMM feel a little thinner than the Wolfgang. The asymetrical neck feels close to the same between the two. I think the look of the EBMM is so simple and classy, and I love the quilt tops that were prevalent as opposed to mostly solids and flame tops of the Wolfgang (with exception to first year quilts). But I've never thought the Wolfgang was an ugly guitar, but not nearly as nice as the EBMM. The construction seemed superior with the EBMM, but it's not something that you can tell necessarily in the feel, just in the look. It might be mental, but I always thought the EBMM looked 'custom made' while the Wolfgang looks like a mass produced guitar. As far as sound, and I guess I'm in the minority, but I really think the two guitars sound different. I think the EBMM's bridge sounds 'bitier' and the neck sounds smoother. But I think that also makes the middle position of the switch sound a little more drastic while the Wolfgang sounds a little more even because the bridge and neck sounds don't vary quite as much. Also the tone knob option is alright with the Wolfgang, but I personally don't use it anyway.
Now most of the differences I've described are pretty picky. I really think that the guitars are pretty close in overall design, but I never felt like the Wolfgang was an evolution like it was described, but maybe just a continuation of a concept with enough of a difference to make it stand apart. I love them both, and I would take one or the other any day over anything else I have.
