Ever met a rockstar you admired and ended up thinking they were a w-nker?!
Carrying on from the theme of worst concerts...they say you should never meet your idols as they will probably make you realise they are very normal and it kills the attraction. I had the misfortune to meet Gary Moore in 1983 at The Marquee Club in London when my band ( Black Rose) played there. I was a huge Gary Moore fan and wanted to talk to him about stuff but he was an ignorant twat and was surrounded by record company 'suits' that it put me off to this day...I was a young punk (20) and he was one of my idols but he was so condescending I'd have to agree that meeting one of your heroes probably ain't a good idea. What about you guys?

I met Fred "Rerun" Berry once and was very disappointed. But, he's not really a rock star, now is he?
I did have the occasion to meet Eric Johnson in college and he was pretty cool.

Re: Ever met a rockstar you admired and ended up thinking they were a w-nker?!
I met Ozzy at a record signing here right around the time of his first album without Randy Rhoads. He wasn't an ass per se, but he was just as braindead then as he is now. I remember making an idiot of myself by saying "Kick ass, Ozzy!" in my mature 14-year-old voice (LOL), and him saying something like "Uh...yeah, rock and roll man." I have pics somewhere that I'll scan of me shaking his hand - pretty damn funny.
On another page, I met Quiet Riot for the same kind of thing when they played here with ZZ Top during the Metal Health tour, and they were totally cool. Almost a little too aloof, since they were enjoying their first major success, but they were having a blast, and that's what counts after all. I was in a graphic arts class at school and learning photography for the first time, having to develop our work by hand. Our first "assignment" was basically an "anything goes" theme, so I shot pics of the guys at the record signing and they were more than happy to mug it up for the camera. The roll stuck to itself during developing, so I really didn't get anything to come out.

I actually had an opportunity to meet quite a few great guitar players ie: steve morse, vinnie moore, eddie van halen. But one I really regret talking to was Vivian Campball. It was about 10 years ago at a music convention in LA. He was a real arrogant ass. The convention was to Mix with the suits and artists. Vivian was a real dissapointment. I tried to ask him about his influences, techniques and stuff but he didn't give a shit. He's was great with Dio to bad still an ass.

hi there...in the early 90's cinderella rolled through hamilton...i was between jobs and decided out of the blue to take a couple of my guitars down to the hotel that they were staying at because i read that tom keifer was a collector of sorts of vintage guitars...i simply walked up to someone in his entourage and told them that i had a couple of vintage guitars for sale....i was put into an appointment book and told to return to the lobby at a certain time...
i thought to myself..."yeah...right...like the band would like to meet me of all people"...i thought i was being brushed off...
i went home and got a friend to carry one guitar case while i carried another...we waited around the lobby at the set time...the whole band showed!!!...i couldn't believe it...we sat down and shot the breeze for about a half an hour...the drummer fred curry was interested in my '68 sg...but i was reluctant to sell...tom keifer was checking out my carved guild s-100 but decided he was looking for an old les paul...
they asked if i was going to the show...i told them i couldn't afford it...they told me to show up at the gate and two tickets with backstage passes would be waiting for me...all i had to do was show up and state my name...again i was dumbfounded by their generosity...they kept their word...
they were headlining with slaughter as the opening act....what a killer show...it sounded exactly like their albums....same solos...everything...very polished act...i wound up taking my brother because my friend couldn't make it that night...i had a blast...
if you ever have a chance to see cinderella play...go!!!...they really love their fans...even the non-paying ones!!!

That is fuckin awesome dude! Cinderella are one of my all-time favourite bands ever, and to hear that the band is rad, is great to hear. The singer, Tom , in particular seems like a great guy. Id love to meet him! One of my favourite guitarists ever. The rest of the guys would be awesome too. I live in Australia, but if they re-form or tour again, Im flying over to the States to see them!!!

I agree Vivian is a complete ass. When I met DL he walked past all fans and went to the bar to hang with some slutty groupies while Rick, Sav and Joe stopped to sign autographs for all, Rick even stayed to hang out with some redneck fans who brought moonshine. Then he made us wait for a long time, showing us that he will sign autographs later, and then went up to his room without signing anything or talking to anyone. Then of course he ruined the Leppard concert by overplaying everything in his outdated NWOBHM style. It´s laughable that he says he doesn´t like metal and is almost ashamed of his work with Dio and Sweet Savage when that is the only thing he´s ever been good at.

I met Rick Derringer at the Nashville show this past spring...Very genuinely a nice guy. Probably the freindliest person I have met in a long long time.

I also met Eric Sardinas after a concert with Vai.. another really super nice guy. Signed some stuff for my son and probably spent a good 10 minutes just chatting about things with me.

On the subject of Rock and Roll Cricket Stars...I ran out on to the wicket, aged 10, at Trent Bridge once, while Ian Botham (famous British Cricket Bloke) and the Umpires were inspecting it before Derek Randall's Testimonial Game. I worshipped Botham and wanted to ask him for his autograph.
Got within 10 metres of him before he turned round and told me to "Fuck off". It was a long and lonely walk back to the stands, during which I cultivated a hatred for the big chinned, moustachioed wanker that still exists to this day.

That's AWESOME!!!!
I met Mark Tremonti once in a "meet and greet" at a local music store.
It was VERY cool. There was a line wrapped around the block, but the store allowed those with PRS Tremonti guitars to go in first and have a one-on-one meeting with Mr. Tremonti. He was extremely down to earth and very appreciative of everyone who showed up that day. I was very impressed.

That's cool Dino. I am a pretty big Tremonti fan. Not for his "Shred" but his songwriting. Theres a real energy and passion in his tunes while maintaining a lovely melody throughout and i totally dig that. I'm pleased to hear he is a decent bloke
I've not met anyone famous... Unless you count Danzi... and i don't need to tell you what a great guy he is cause you can probably tell ... Mind you i havent actually MEt him (In Person) yet... will one day though. According to him lol

Kelly Keagy, drummer for Night Ranger was a total dickhead but the other guys were very cool, I met Brad Gillis and the guys once and sat in their tour bus.
Ted Nugent wasn't a bad guy but he does have a very, very high and mighty disposition. He was nice enough to jam "just what the doctor ordered" with me at a seminar.
No other wankers to mention.

Cliff Williams (Bass player AC/DC) is actually a very good friend of mine. My firm designed a house for him in Florida 5 years ago, and we have been tight ever since. He hates rock stars!!
