The rumor has been swirling for a several months that Ed has been working with Fender on both a guitar and an amp. Most of these rumors started around the time Charvel (which is owned by Fender now) started to produce the
EVH art series guitars. These things are usually kept entirely under wraps until it is time to actually announce something, and people in those camps are very tight-lipped. I've tried to get info out of my Fender rep a few times, and he just smiles and claims to not know anything, which is smart on his part so that he doesn't get fingered by his employer for divulging classified info.
My personal feeling is that what we will see when Ed decides to record new music - and that's the KEY factor - is a new Wolfgang-type line produced by Charvel. They have really benefitted from the Art Series, since their name had all but disappeared once they were bought by FMIC. Now they have 25th anniversary San Dimas guitars and the EVH models to get them back in to the spotlight again.
Furthermore, I would expect to see a new amp produced by Fender. They proved this past year that they were capable of making an amp geared towards power-freaks with the solid state Metalhead series. I don't put it past them to be able to produce a hot Marshall-y type tube amp, especially since they know it would expand their customer base greatly by doing so.
