Got a Drum Set on Saturday

I’m sooo stoked!

Got this used Ludwig 5-piece drum set for my son on Saturday. It’s a 15-year-old pro set in excellent condition with massive tone, finished in shiny black.
Comes with everything (drums, stands, ride, hi-hat, throne).
Got the whole bit for $500.
I had to stack it under the staircase until Xmas for surprise—the kid's gonna have a cow when he sees it.

I still need to get him an extra stand and crash cymbal and he’s ready to conjure up the gods of thunder!

I'll post a pic when it's up and bangin' around Xmas!

Right on CC! You will make his Christmas for sure (and I am sure you will be able to slip in a little practice time yourself )

Re: Got a Drum Set on Saturday

Thanks!
Actually, I'm going to try and keep things separated. I want my son to be in charge of the drums 100 percent.

I think he shied away from the guitar because I myself am very involved, and he may have felt intimidated or affraid of competing with me and of getting discouraged. I feel that by letting him be the only drummer, he'll build confidence.

I may sneak a few beats wen he's not home, but that'll be all I think.

Re: Got a Drum Set on Saturday

I need to research this model. I'd like to know what it was called and when it was on the market. I was told 15 years ago, but not set in stone.
I know it looks very sturdy and well built. There is minor oxydation on some of the chromed hardware pieces, but it actually rubs right off with chrome polish.
I can't spend any time cleaning it up though as it took us 30 minutes to hide it under our staiwell and erect a decoy wall of junk with snowboard, empty boxes and the like. I can't bring myself to tearing it down until Xmas. Oh well...
I'm more tortured by it than my son would be if he knew that he was getting it and had to wait for it, ah ah ah!

Re: Got a Drum Set on Saturday

Good info, gutwrench. Maybe that's the same set. I'll take close up pictures later on and maybe you can tell me more about it.

I picked up the snare drum and stand tonight, as the kid who was selling it had it at school when I picked up the rest of the set this weekend.
The snare is all chromed metal (or stainless) and still has the Ludwig skin on it, with no nicks or dimples on it.

The chrome looked a bit crummy on the snare body but after a scrub with a killer chrome cleaning product I use on the motorcycle it looks absolutely knockout!

I'm really looking forward to setting everything up for Xmas.
