Hi I have a 92/93 Mexican made Fender Strat and I was going to change the pickups, but decided that they have a nice sound to them. I have been reading up on ways to mod your guitar and found some interesting information.
These may sound like dumb questions with obvious answers, but this is my guitar so I am willing to sound dumb to make sure I mod it the best I possibly can.
First thing I want to do is replace the tremolo block to a nice steel one and I read that you can greatly increase your guitars tone
by sanding all the paint off the inside of the compartment in the back where the tremolo springs are. Has anyone done this or knows anything about it? Does it make a huge difference? Supposebly it is also recomended to sand the paint off the guitar anywhere it is not visible. I guess my main question is are there any spots that you recomend me not sanding?
Also I have read in many places that it can cause damage to your guitar if you remove all the strings. I can see how, but I will need to remove them to make the changes on my guitar. Im sure it wont cause any damage if its just temporary but I would like a second opinion.
My third question is, what other components would you recomend I consider to replace? Not quite sure what sound I am going for, just want to maximize my strats potential bbefore I decide to change pickups and any information on any subject of modding my strat would be greatly appreciated. Also some references with pics on how to do some of these mods would be helpful if you know of anything, otherwise I will have to Google it.
Please reply back if you have any knowledge or experience on this subject and when I actually get around to it, I will post back with my results hoping somone else can make use of this information.
