[Help] How to paint a guitar?

Hello everyone ... I was just wondering what kind of paint to use on my Strat. I've been thinking of repainting it for a while now, but the only problem really seemed to be what to use. And could somebody give me some pointers on painting? It'd be greatly appreciated. If you have AIM, I'm available at rockygotfingered and my email is rockygotfingered@yahoo.com. Thanks!

I have all his books but the 5150 and I can say they are well done. Some people laugh at using Krylon but paint is paint and look at the results this guy is getting. His video is a bit like a late night infomercial but he also writes for guitar world magazine and always answers my questions when I email.

I can't say enough good things about John Gleniecki (the author).
The guy is incredibly talented and just a great guy all around.
I HIGHLY recommend buying any and ALL of his books.

Here's another one I did with Krylon (and the help of his book of course) ...

I am looking to do the exact same thing! I am currently looking for the right guitar, although it looks like you did a Gibson? I would really appreciate if you can PM any tips you might have so I don't hijack this thread!

I have never had the time...but I have seen some results from Krylon that look awesome. I think it has a lot ot do with the wet sanding process. I'll check out these books and links. If I could just Hijack the thread for a post or 2..........

What kind of guitar are you going to paint E.J?

And what's the plan?

I have some of the parts, but have not decided on a paint scheme as of yet. The first thing I am going to do is the neck (frets and coutour) because if I can't get past that.....I'm scrapping the project. I'm using a bolt on maple neck....basswood body....not sure if I'll Floyd or stop tailpiece.

The Zakk Wylde Bullseye guitar I posted late last year was done using Krylon and John's book.

The most important thing to keep in mind is not to rush! You will get impatient, but remember to take your time when designing and painting, and make sure you wait long enough before sanding and buffing.
