Re: HOW DO YOU ???....
What do you have for gear (specifically amps & pedals)? If you have a modeller(POD, V-Amp,etc) or an amp with an emulated line out..then you're halfway there!

Re: HOW DO YOU ???....
I use a VAmp Dave. Check out some of my recordings with it. I plug it between my guitar and computer Use Cool Edit Pro to mix, and Voila!
Check out the latest from RGX312 and me on guitars, and VanMan on vocals:

Re: HOW DO YOU ???....
Hi Dave,
I had a small 15W Marshall that I used to record at the start. When I used the Line Out straight into the soundcard, it sounded like shite.
So I then used a p.c. mic to mic the amp. However, I couldn't crank the amp up due to potential neighbour and wife conflicts. So, running it at 0.1% volume also made my recordings sound shite.
I then eventually got a PODxt.
This is definitely the easiest way I have found to record a guitar into the P.C. Note, I did not say the best. I have just found it to be the easiest.
However, Stiglar used to mic his amp, and he has now bought a POD 2.0. wahwah used to have a 5150, but raves about the PODxt he has now got. But, if you listen to a song by J-Mart, you can also realise how great tone can be got from mic'ing an amp.
But, like I say, an Amp modellor tends to be easier.
V-Amps and PODs can be gotten off ebay. V-Amps tend to be a lot cheaper (<$100), whereas a PODxt tends to be around $300, if I remember rightly, but bottom line PODxt's are a bit more expensive.
Which one's better ? It's a matter of opinion. In terms of sounds, they have their pros and cons (e.g. one will have better distortion, the other better flange, etc), but overall the sounds they produce are as good as each other.
In terms of support and USB, digital capability, etc., from what I have read on this site, Line6 is better for that. But I might be a bit biased in that I've always paid more attention to the POD threads because that is the unit that I have. But from the other threads I have read, I'm sure everyone acknowledges that the PODxt has a digital USB, or something like that, and the V-Amp does not. Sorry, not had morning coffee yet, so can't remember what it was or in which thread it was quoted.
I used Cool Edit Pro for a lot of my recordings, but found it would conflict with my PODxt for some reason. I then put Cakewalk on there, and found it to be a breeze.
So, in answer to your question, to record a guitar into a computer, I NOW use guitar, cable into PODxt, USB into computer, Cakewalk.
Hope this helps in some way. Good luck dude !!!

Re: HOW DO YOU ???....
I've owned a PODxt (which I originally bought with great doubt) for three months now and I am still blown away by the tone it produces! For the PODxt you can buy a "short" or "long"
board for controlling all the effects (yes, simultaneously) with your feet. You can even switch between amp tones and cabinet configurations. I'm not sure if you can do echo and delay at the same time, but you can plug your own pedals into this thing too. The sick thing is that you can have this god like tone cranking in your headphones while your girlfriend can sit in the same room watching "Will and Grace" on TV.
Oh yeah, I plug directly into the USB port and record into Cool Edit. If you sample the sound using a high bit-rate and save your files at nearly the highest quality, there is little left to be desired in achieving a great recording.

Re: HOW DO YOU ???....
Hi dude.
I'm in no way suggesting that the PODxt is your only solution. You might be able to find that you can mic your amp well, or get along fine with a V-Amp, V-Amp2, POD, or POD 2.0.
I'm guessing the PODxt is the most expensive solution to your problem, and sorta makes all your other fantastic gear redundant, unless you use it for gigging.
But, anyway. Yeah, you CAN put simultaneous effects on, although I still have to read the manual to figure the bugger out. stingx tells me you can use Line6 Edit (free download) to have more flexibility over editing your effects, but I haven't sat down with that either.
This sounds lazy. However, I'm not a knob twizller (contrary to popular belief). The presets are great, but the tones that you can download from www.customtone.com are fantastic.
With just the presets and the custom tones alone, I have more than I could possibly imagine, which is why I haven't delved into editing / creating my own patches yet...
I stress again, the PODxt isn't your only solution, please don't feel like I was implying that was the ONLY way that you could go, I wasn't. The PODxt sorted my problems out, but as you can see, that's cuz I am a lazy bastard, and I didn't have stacks of expensive gear already.
As for plugging pedals into the PODxt, you can do it, but you then take away the digital nature. And there are modellors for all your stomp boxes in there. MXR Phase 90 (there is a preset Eruption setting), Ibanez Tube Screamer, etc....
Hope this helps further. But believe me, I am not the master when it comes to these things. People on here get far more use out of their units than I do !
