How Many Springs On Your Wolf?

I have 3. The reason I ask is because I just changed the strings .009 - .046 (GHS) and when I tuned to E, the tension causes the bridge to angle forward more than it did with the strings that came on the guitar. I don't know what guage they were.

I suppose it's possible that the guitar had .008s on them but it didn't feel like it. I'm pretty sure the guitar was tuned to E and not Eb because I remember playing along to Little Dreamer and I was a half step sharp.

I'm confused.

What do you guys think happened?

Thanks.

Dave

Re: How Many Springs On Your Wolf?

Actually, I guess it could have had .010s on it which would explain how it could have been in E but the heavier strings would have had less tension in that key and therefore less pull on the trem springs.

I don't know. I'm confused. If the guitar comes from the factory with .009s and 3 springs, should the bridge lay flat?

Thanks again.

New strings will cause the bridge to pull up most of the time. Just tighten the springs in the back, retune, tighten (or loosen if too much tension).

A Floyd is a Floyd when it comes to springs. Doesn't matter about the guitar becuase the bridge is a mechanically separate entity solely dependent on the string and spring tension. Any guitar I have ever used that has a Floyd on it always has three springs as my preference. Floating or not, I still go with three. Many benefits such as strings not going out of tune when bending and not too easy to depress the bar when getting read to warble notes with the trem

How do you tighten the springs? Do you drive the claw springs further into the body?

Thanks.

Yep. go about a half turn on each screw, then check the strings and tune if possible, but work in increments of half turns so you don't over tighten. Then you won't be able to use it for what it's made for, killer dive bombs!

I know that EVH has only 2 springs in his guitars and that they dont go to the hole directly in front of them. He has them sortof like this / \. you can try that if you like.

Yeah, I pulled out one of the springs in my EBMM Axis at EJ's suggestion and then used the screws to level the bridge back down and now it whammy's much smoother. It was extremely tight before with three springs and I didn't like the feel of it at all.

Re: How Many Springs On Your Wolf?

i'm thinking about just having two springs....is it real hard to get back in tune when you take one out?...should you loosen the strings before i take it out....and what adjustment to i need on the screws?

they are all strait, and mine whammy's and dive bombs very nicely, so why do people say 3 is too much.
