Hi
First time poster. I reciently won an auction for a Floyd Rose on Ebay.
I found this topic when I searched for installation techniques. I am sure you know what you are talking about but, I am a little nervous about just plopping it in without screwing up the intonation. I did some more research and found this: http://www.stewmac.com/FretCalculator/
This will show you the correct distance from the nut in which to place your Floyd. With this info, I feel a little more comfortable with the install.
El_jalepeno, I am sorry if I stepped on your toes.

No problem at all, and thanks for the info.
One thing to keep in mind is if you are using an existing routed body, say a Strat, your only choice is to plop the bridge in, and it will fit and work as expected. Becuase of the nature of the bridge, the saddles on the Floyd are adjustable to correct the intonation as needed. If you are digging wood out and starting completely from scratch, this is a great tool since there is no reference point in the forst place As you can see from the many posts in here, many people have followed the instructions and successfully installed their own Floyds, so you should have no problems. Let us know how your installation goes. Good luck.

EJ's pics are not posted but if you go to the "how to" section and look at my thread called "fretwork" you can see how I did it on a neck.

Good question....it seems to be MIA. I'll try and figure out where that thread went.

hello all, this is my first post, i joined just because of this thread. If i put a floyd in a Strat that has the normal trem in it would i have to modify the body at all? if i would, what modifications? (planning on mounting it flush)

Hey...welcome.... First off, the rectangular hole in your strat should allow you to drop in a Floyd Rose no problem.
The only modifications you'll have to make are drilling the two holes for the bushes/posts for the Floyd to rest on at the bridge....AND you'll need to route out the top of the neck for a locking nut. That may sound easy but it's essential you get the measurements right. You maye then also need to change the pick up height so it's near the strings...and shim the neck to keep the action low. Early stages of this thread should show you how to do all these things right. Good luck!

If its a 22- fret neck then the distance between the nut (on the neck) and the saddle (on the floyd bridge) should be 25.5-inch scale.

Heyy ...
Don't know if anyone's covered this b4 & I'm too lazy to search through the whole thread (OK I'm actually too pushed for time, cos lunchtime's almost over)
My Aria Pro-II Diamond series is fitted with the Aria ACT-III Floyd Licensed trem.
It's getting a little tired and not keeping pitch anymore. Plus the FTs are starting to seize up and the knife edges are more like flat plains.
I think it'll be cheaper in the long run to retrofit a new bridge than to try & renovate the old one (maybe pick one up off of ebay quite cheap), but most refits are for posts at 74mm pitch. The ACT-III posts are at 72mm pitch.
Anyone have knowledge of, or informed opinions about whether the 'standard' type bridge can accommodate the 2mm difference in post pitch without having to fill & re-drill the post holes? I know it's less than 1/8" difference, but still ....
