Ibanez Destroyer from trees

Well ever since I gave away the first Van Halen Shark I built I've been dying to start on another. Here it is. Ash body with a Maple/Rosewood set neck. I really focused on the heal this time and it's much more authentic than the last one I did. Got a ways to go on it but this is the current state.

Looks real nice! I don't build guitars, But I've got a few questions. Did you build the neck yourself? Where would I research to learn about building with a set neck? To me, It's seems like the most intimidating part.

Gorgeous!!! I just got to pop in to say how excited I am to see you doing this kind of work. What kind of wood did you use for the body? All of my 70's Destroyers are Japanese ash, but like American ash, they all have different densities and weights (8 to 11lbs). There are some subtle details regarding the pick guard cutout and spacing of pickup to the bridge depending on what year the original Destroyer was made. If you want to copy the "good" Destroyers, I would suggest the 75 or 76 (I could send you pictures explaining the differences).
When you set the neck, did you angle it back 2-4 degrees? That angle brings the neck back towards the body making for added comfort, especially when playing a bulky Explorer type guitar. Some people have done neck a through on their Destroyer replicas, but I do not feel that is an effective design choice (for a bass it is beneficial, but not a guitar).

Exciting work you are doing there! Please don't cut it up!

It's on a 4 deg angle and the headstock is on 13-14 deg.
Here's a few pics of the second one that I glued up last night.

Here's something else I'm working on right now.

Hey Strat78, I figured you would appreciate me not hacking up the real thing. Pics of originals would be awesome! The body is Ash and the neck is Maple/Rosewood.

That destroyer looks killer, but the birdseye in that second's fingerboard looks sweet enough to eat!

WOW FD,

Those look like 2 awesome projects! Post more pics along the way and don't use spraycans to paint/clearcoat them.
