Re: Kramer 1984

I love mine. I got it for $599 w/ case when they had it on special and it is worth every penny. It has great sustain. The only gripe i have is w/ the pickup. It sounds great full volume but if you roll back on the volume it gets a little muddy compared to my duncan custom in my washburn. I might trade pickups someday because the 1984 feels and plays better than my washburn but, it really sounds great at full volume maybe even better than the duncan. I never thought I would say that because my washburn was my favorite until i got the 1984. I would recommend it even at $699.

Re: Kramer 1984

Hi there,

Well, I got mine from Music Yo at the beginning of last year. It took a while for me to get it set up, because I think it got bashed about a bit as it was shipped across to the UK. It needed a complete fret redress before it was usable.

Then I got it striped up !

Looks and plays fantastic now. Sound is amazing out of it. I don't know what another pickup would sound like in it, but it seems great to my ears. The neck just begs you to play it.

I've heard some horror stories on Harmony Central and other reviews, but there's nothing wrong with mine yet, touch wood.

I love the guitar, it looks and feels great and plays and sounds just as good. I know this isn't a great review here, but at the end of the day, I like it, and everyone who has ever played on it likes it as well, and can't put it down !

Well worth the money paid !!!

Well, in all fairness, no matter how bad a guitar gets thrown around in shipping, a complete fret redressing should not happen!

Re: Kramer 1984

I guess you could be right, E_j. It could have been in this state before shipping, but I'd have no way to tell whether this was true or not, since I had no means of playing the guitar whilst it was in the States.

However, it seemed more obvious to assume that the guitar's neck would have shifted during the changes in temperature whilst shipping across the Atlantic. I guess my description of "bashed about" was not actually what I was implying.

Anyway, it arrived with a dead spot on the 5th fret. Like I say, the Luthier didn't seemed surprised by the fact the neck could have moved as it had been shipped across the Atlantic. He tried some neck truss rod adjustments and tried filing the fret in question. It cleaned it up a bit, but not enough, so a complete fret redress did the trick.

I will never part with my '83 Kramer. I cry when I think how EVERYONE had to have a Kramer and yet the silly bastards went belly up.

I've always wanted to buy one....but then I'd be too tempted to stripe it up like Edwards 5150

Re: Kramer 1984

What is the serial number on the neck plate? Being a bit of a Kramer fanatic, I can date it for you from this, the configuration of the pickups and what's written on the headstock.
