I use D'Addario XL's (9's) for strings and I use a 2.0mm purple stubby (small) pick, they are great for picking but take a while to get used to.

SNAP siN !

That's exactly the same pick that I use !

I also use Ernie Ball Super Slinky's...

I have no idea if this is the best setup for me, but it feels comfortable, so...

Could the pick be the problem that we both have.... (having a hard time to play the guitar like we like to play the guitar....) ?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That must be the problem, I quite agree. It's defeinitely the fault of the plectrum, what else could it possibly be ? *AHEM*

Here is a pic of the stubby, the one I use is on the right but someeimts I like to use the clear one (1.0mm). The only probelem with that one is it loses it's tip too fast and you have to sharpen it on the carpet after about an hour of picking with it, the 2.0mm lasts much longer.

Re: little tidbit questions ....

I use Ernie Ball Regular Slinky's (10's)

I have picks in various materials and sizes: aluminium, plastic, nylon, medium, heavy, extra heavy, even a coin. (But mainly I use a Ernie Ball heavy nylon pick, or a Harley-Benton medium pick)

I've been using GHS Boomers 9's for years now myself, and always have used medium picks. Been usng Fender custom shop picks the last several years, although I really miss "Pro Grip" picks - anybody remember those? They came in a drawstring bag with rosin on them.

Re: little tidbit questions ....

Good for you Stiglar, it's an excellent tool to practice with. Too bad more people don't use them I always recommend it because it really builds a sense of control and timing. I started out as a drummer so I knew the value of it right away.

I instructed at a music store for a while and always encouraged students to buy the little cheap {beep beep) electronic ones. It's a waste to hear people that have real talent not be able to phrase a simple arpeggio or scale over a basic 4/4 beat.

Re: little tidbit questions ....

I use Ernie Ball Super Slinky (.009 -.042). I use to use 10's but there really isn't much difference. I just find 9's easier to bend. The only gauge that is really gonna make a difference is like .11's or .13's. I heard .13's don't stay in tune very good, is that true?
For picks I use dunlop tortex .73 and sometimes one of those thick nylon pick-a-roo's!
