I would have to vote Mike Mushok from Staind. His playing is good enough on cd, but if you see his live show, its hard to see how he could play so good when doing what he does. And ive seen him going to hell on their dvd with 14 shades of grey and he shreds like hell.

I'm not mentioning Brian May because after reading thru this topic it's clear hes getting his deserved props. So I will go with Prince and Steve Howe.

I'm with Eamon on Michael Schenker, Uli and Mathias (What about Rudolf as well - he ain't so bad either)

Also nominate Dan Huff ("Giant", "Shania Twain") - excellent soulful & hot player, great tone on the "Giant" albums and a mighty fine singer too.

How about some 'unsung' Brit greats too: Bernie Marsden, Micky Moody - you can tell I like old Whitesnake now, can't you? Their pairing with Coverdale was the finest time for that band in my humble opinion. Bernie has a good set of pipes too - oh yes ...

Good god, so true!!! Micky Moody is one of the truly finest slide guitar players out there, and they're time together with Coverdale certainly the highest point for Whitesnake.

Watching the M3 dvd is inspiring, it gave me the encouragement to try and learn to play slide.

As for anyone else, i'd definately say Michael Schenker is there, and i think its a damn shame that Morse isn't as seen as such a big part of Purple history.

Yeah - "Live in the Heart of The City" is STILL one of my all time fave albums. Micks slide solo on the 11 minute long version of "Lovehunter" just says it all (AND he's from my neck o' the woods too) - as well as Bernie's sooo soulful soloing stuff on "Ain't No Love ..." - love his voice on "Might Just Take Your Life" and " Lie Down" too. Love that title for a love song BTW (hehe ..).

Hey - didja know that Bernie had a spell in UFO for a while too (before MS)?

I saw Krieger play with Particle and Joe Satriani. Maybe it's because he was old, or because he was playin next to Satrian, but yeah.... he wasn't that great.

I do agree that his work with the Doors fits really well. Songs like peace frog or spanish caravan prove that.

Sonny Landreth. Listen to anything of his and your mind will be blown. I'd daresay he's better than Clapton. Or to me at least.
