Moving guitar's volume knob out of the way, is there anything I really need to know?

A couple questions before I head out to work, I'll check back probably in 5 days yet plan to do this when this coming weekend arrives.

I want to move the volume knob on my guitar out of my way by swapping the volume knob in place of the pickup selector switch. It's just in my way. I removed the back plate to access everything, took the switch and knob out, there is plenty of excess wire to do the swap without any splicing or anything. Yet I will have to drill one hole bigger for the swap and then find some washers or something to fill in the bigger hole for the volume knob so it doesn't rattle around.

I can't see any reason not to do this...yet asking because you guys may know something I don't or am overlooking.

Also what is the best type of paint to use on a guitar? Something that can be wet sanded (color sanded) and then buffed out to a super shine? I have done this with lacquer paint many times for awesome results yet not sure if lacquer will work with a guitar, not sure what kind of paint is on this guitar...It is an LTD AX350 if that helps in any way (maybe someone knows what type of paint is on it)

Well, if I don't check back in on this question for a few days I'll look fwd to any answers when I get to it.

"Yall" have a great week!

You should have no problems with moving the knob to your satisfaction. IDK about the paint tho.

I'm not exactly what you are doing with the paint. Just a touch up or a full re-paint. There are a lot of threads in the gear photo section showing paint jobs on projects around here...Dino, myself and many others have done it with success.

Hey,
I wasn't sure what I was going to do with the paint, I was mulling some things over how I want to arrange knobs and switch. I have it figured out how I can rearrange knobs and switch, add shielding, install EMG actives, and dual batteries for 18 volts (or double the battery life) without having to do any extra paint work due to holes left in guitar that had to be filled in. I'll just place a small LED low battery indicator where the volume knob that was in my way to fill that hole. The LED bulb protrusion is just a small "nub" and won't be a problem. I did take the knob out and played without it in my way and it was like a new guitar, what an improvement!

I didn't realize they had a forum on the ESP website until after I posted this thread. There is a wealth of info on these guitars over there.

So no paint work needed for now. I do want to remove the LTD logo on the headstock eventually and do a small continuation of the tribal inlay that's on the fretboard. (copy a small section thats on the fretboard and place it where the LTD logo is then clear coat over it) Yet I'll wait for the locking tuners to mess with that.

I have seen some of the awesome work done on guitars by members here. Some definite talent here.

A little more looking was all I needed to do. The internet is an awesome tool.
