Been listening to Journey again. I love the songs and Neal Schon's playing. He has gotta be one of my all time favorite players. What a career too, started touring with Santana at 15. Any other Schon fans out there?
Sure, I love older Journey back before the ballads They were just getting big in the bay area around the time I was grwoing up down there. Great band with all the right elements. I wonder what's on Neal's plate these days?
Neal Schon has released some great instrumental albums (CD).."Electric World" and "Late Nite" showcase some of his best guitar playing...His solos are very melodic, interesting, lots of soul & emotion in his playing...Steve Lukather is another guitarist who is smokin', also...
Yeah, I'm a huge fan of Neal...his solo's always sound complete and full of feeling. I got the Time3 cd box set about 10 years ago and there's some great stuff on there. Tho I love the ballads my fave song would have to be 'Edge Of The Blade'...smokin' riff and solo.
I just bought another Journey DVD today. Its the greatest hits one. Lotta live footage, even of Greg Rollie singing. I can't believe how much I like those songs after all these yrs. Talk about a true test of time. Neal's playing on this stuff is great. Some serious fashion statements they had through the yrs too. LOL.
I really like Journey, not too familiar with Neal's solo stuff. When I start playing some of that older stuff all of a sudden I picture myself needing hip huggers, feathered hair, and a scarf around my neck... Cripes! Those were some days Any other good live vids out there you guys can recommend?
Neal is a dangerous Mofo . He plays with alot of fire and passion not to mention his sense of melody is amazing. I also recommend Abraxas Pool . A project he did in the mis 90's with some Santana alumni , Gregg Rolie et. al... Great stuff!
Best Neal: the two Schon/Hammer albums Untold Passion and Here to Stay
and HSAS w/Sammy Hagar ,Michael Shrieve and Kenny Aaronson.Always liked
him w/ Santana and early Journey stuff too.
His sound was iconic for the time.
He was able to be a team player in a band that included keyboards a unique challenge for himself and all musicians open to the possibilities tha a keyboard could provide.

I just listened to an Abraxas boot I had laying around and Schon is smokin on there. He kills the Santana stuff as well. Nothing against Carlos but they didn't need him for that project.
