I'm putting together a strat for my senior project. I made it pretty much to completion, and began to string the guitar. I noticed that the strings lay right on the fretboard, pretty much flat against it. Somebody had told me that I needed to raise the action on the bridge. Well, the bridge has 6 screws in it, and I loosened up the screws, and there really wasn't any difference. What else could it possibly be?

Typically, most people don't realize that the NUT(the little bone or plastic piece by the headstock) can be vital in setting both intonation and action.
Try putting a "shim" underneath the nut and then working your way back to the bridge.
You forgot to mention if your axe is tremelo or non-trem. The settings on the springs can reallly affect the action height etc.
