Need info on tuning machines (revers headstock)
I have a 1990 Peavey Tracer w/ reverse headstock that needs some tuning machines replaced. Whats on it are Grover and they have a pin thats hidden when its installed that goes into a hole in the headstock to keep it from twisting. A few of these pins are broken and allow the tuner to twist.
I went to my dealer and he is acting like this is some sort of wierd item that is hard to find. He ended up ordering me a set of PING left (hand/side ?) tuning machines that look nearly identical to whats on it, except these appear to be 180 degrees off. He now seems to think that the tuners need to not only be for the right side, but also must be reversed geared.
I contacted Peavey parts, they act like he might be able to find something lying around if I'm not in a big hurry, but it likely won't be a full set.
Can someone enlighten me on tuning machines, and is this is a special tuner? I've tired looking on the net for a reverse head stock tuner, but haven't found anything. Someone I talked to suggested maybe the gear could be turned around or changed to make a normal tuning machine work. Anyone know if this is true?
