New Iron Maiden album

I don't know if it's out in the US yet, but I picked up the new Dance Of Death Maiden CD in the UK last week.
I've been playing it since then and I really like it. It's nothing groundbreaking, but Iron Maiden is not about that.
Instead they deliver classic Maiden chord progressions and great atmospheres. Dickinson is singing his ass off as usual, and the whole band is super tight.
Kevin Shirley produced the album; he's got great credentials with Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin.
I highly recommend this album to Maiden lovers.

Sounds great man - I haven't been to my friendly neighborhood record store recently but I'll see if I can find it when I'm in the City of Lost Angels this week.

Re: New Iron Maiden album

It's a banging record ! Blinding !

Yep, there's nothing different or grond breaking, or earth-shatteringly different on this one to be honest. It's just classic Iron Maiden.

They don't stray too much from their sound and style, which is why I know I'll enjoy every album that I buy of theirs. They are on of the few bands where I just instantly buy their records, because I know that I will enjoy !

Bruce sings his arse off, the solos are way too long (but they do have 3 guitarists), some of the songs are over 7 minutes !

But that's what makes the album great.

My favourite song keeps a-changing, but currently, it is Paschendale !!!

I'd recommend this album to anyone who likes good old fashioned rock at high volumes with shit loads of guitars !!!

Re: New Iron Maiden album

I was floored when I realized the album was in the UK Top 40 at #2!!!!!!

Those brits know a good thing when they hear it!

I agree that the album is very consistent. A shitload of guitars all over the place and some very well crafted harmonies. I don't mind the lenght of the songs at all.

A good Maiden classic album!

Re: New Iron Maiden album

Don't be fooled mate. We are predominantly a cheesy pop / boy band / girl band buying nation at the moment.

However, bands like Iron Maiden and Metallica and Bon Jovi just have a huge fan base, so their albums always go in high in the charts. You just got to look at all the different formats of the album as well, as well as all the hype they manage to build up either through their website, or magazines, or T.V. They do it well...

Currently, I know the album is out on normal CD, DVD album, vinyl, and picture disc vinyl, and the single was released on CD Single and DVD Single.

Nah, I don't mind the length of the songs either !!!

UP THE IRONS !!!

Re: New Iron Maiden album

Hey CC, one thing annoys the hell outta me on this album. I dunno if you have noticed it as well, but I guess that you will have.

On the song, Dance Of Death the guitar plays a main riff, just before the whole band does a build up. The riff goes (in text based Bulletin Board Notation:

Diddle-diddle-diddle-dee
Diddle-diddle-diddle-dee
Didle-dee-diddle-dee
Diddle-diddle-diddle-dee

i.e., four bars of stuff. But the first time it is played, with just the guitar on it's own, it goes :

Diddle-diddle-diddle-dee
Diddle-diddle-diddle-dee
Diddle-diddle-diddle-dee
Didle-dee-diddle-dee
Diddle-diddle-diddle-dee

i.e. it seems to be a bar too long, and it annoys the heel outta me. Have you noticed this ? Or does it not bother you ?

Or do you not know what I'm on about with my Diddle-dee notation ?

I haven't zeroed in on that yet. I guess it probably doesn't bother me.

Your notation rocks!
