Old Recordings
I got a question for everyone on the site. I have complained for years about new recording methods used by studios (perfection recording) I call it. In the 60-70s recordings there were small errors, note slurs, etc. I feel it gave the music charater. I think some of the older members might know what I'm talkin about. Anyway the new stuff has gotten so canned sounding that I feel there is no charater left in it, just wondered if I'm alone on this?

Re: Old Recordings
I agree. I can pick out "bad" notes and such on about every album from that era. To me, that's what gave those studio recordings a "live" feel. I'm not much for the digital age either. I can't stand a processed guitar sound. Give me a Les Paul straight into a cranked tube amp any day. I don't think theres enough experimentation with mic placement either. Direct recording, amp simulators, etc. No warmth to that stuff at all.

Re: Old Recordings
Listen to The Who's "Live at Leeds". It blows away anything produced today. Even new live recordings are fixed to sound perfect. I always liked VH's policy of leaving the mistakes in on the first few records, as oppposed to their heavily doctored LRHRN album.

Re: Old Recordings
Here is a good example, My wife and I have been married for 20 years and we have this old album (that shell remain nameless cause you guys will laugh at me,) but it had small skip in the middle of one of the songs. Last year we got to see this group in concert and when they did the song without the skip we both looked at each other and laughed because we hadn't heard the song the right way for years! Same goes for mistakes that are left in recorded songs they become part of the music.

Re: Old Recordings
Now you have me curious Sling, What's the name of the song? I listen to shit like Debbie Boone and The Carpenters so it's pretty unlikely that it's gayer than that.
