PANAMA SOLO QUESTION

Ok during the solo for panama, after ed does the bend which starts it you know the 9th 7th 7th part..hes bends back on the 9th i'm sure then he does somethign fast i think its on the G STRING LIKE 6TH, 9TH, & 11TH type deal and then after that part he does the fret hand bend on the 9th and right hand taps out 11th 12th & 14th or what ever it is..now knowing this...does anyone know how to play or exactly what he is doing on the part i wrote in CAPS is played..the 6th 9t and 11th shit..AND my other question is how can i record these backtracks we uploaded here and me playing on myguitar if my computer soundcard does not have a port to plug in..I have a mic output and also have a phillips cd burner..with my pedal (Digitech RP50) I plug into that and run out of it into a cable which splits into right and left audio and plug the red and white into the aux channel on my phillis recorder..then switch over to AUX on it and hit the record button..but that only works for my songs because theres a drum kit type deal on the pedal..but now i need toknow how to take a mp3 and play it and play my guitar at the same time as i'm recording both n a burner...if that made any sense.. Re: PANAMA SOLO QUESTION

just grab a microphone and download a program like cool edit pro it's easy to use and really effective i can't remmeber a website for it .. i'm sure someone else can help you there .

as for the solo , i wouldn't worry to much about getting it exact .. when playing van halen i've found it's more about the feel of ed rather than the notes ... and your bound to be far more comfortable playing something sorta right than trying to sound exactly like ed (which no one can ever do.)

Re: PANAMA SOLO QUESTION

Have a listen to our version of Panama which is on the MP3 section. I'm not sure which bit you mean but I think you're on about where he bends the 9th fret of the G up a full tone and holds it and then taps the 3 notes above before letting it go back to the 9th? If this is it I can sort of explain it! Let me know.

Re: PANAMA SOLO QUESTION

You know, I knew that I saw this recently, and I could not remember where. Then it hit me, our own Eric posted it at the Links! Anyway, in all the years playing this song, this is the one passage that I never got right (and still don’t bother to). I was just like you, where it was not the difficulty as much as I just couldn't figure out what he was doing (even if the video shows it as well!).

Look at this tab that Eric posted and see if this guy did it correctly. I never played it to see if it sounded right. It is the 6-9-11-6-9 5x part.

6-9-11-6-9-6-9-11-6-9-6-9-11-6-9…etc

Re: PANAMA SOLO QUESTION

I'm pretty sure he using his cross picking technique on this. I have the official tab book and I think this is how it goes:
------------0
7p10p0
---------10

repeat
