Pickup lead wire replacement

Had an old pickup laying around and decided to mess with it, I tore it apart and pulled out all the wound wiring, when all was done, i thought why not try to wind in different wire and see what happens. So i rewound them with a different gauge of wire and put hem back together, but nothing. I must have messed up on the lead wires and how they connent into the pickup itself. Anyone have an idea? Ive spent too much time searching the web and all i can find is how to wire pickups to the guitar...Thanks
