Recommend me a Guitar !!!

Hi there guys, just as you probably know I have been stuck on which guitar to get for a long time. I have purchased a V-Amp LX112 100W amp which I will be using for bedroom playing.

However I am stuck on which sort of guitar to be getting. People say different things about different guitars eg. The Ibanez RG guitars were made and sound better by playing metal through them....

Should I just go to the music store and have a play around? pick some up, one that feels good and looks good?.. Because I havent gone too deep into the sounds each guitar makes.

I play a shit Essex guitar right now, it has crap pickups which cant even hold a note if I was playing a solo, I would like a decent guitar which will expand my playing beyond which this essex is limmiting me to. I want nice pickups that sound good when playing clean rythm and can have a good tone for playing rock and doing instrumentals... Is possible? Anyway sorry if this annoys anyone, but its the first time im going to be stepping away from a beginning stage in guitar. And I dont want to spend money, then find out I got one that doesnt suit what I play.

Btw: I like epiphone SG series, and ibanez RG series.

Cheers

EDIT: Not a beginning stage, but stepping into unknown territory which my playing needs.

How much are you willing to spend ?

Best thing to do is as you said just go to the store and play some and if they feel good get em ! ..

If you like alot of instrumental stuff like satch and vai and that kinda stuff. the ibanez' are going to be a good bet i think .. they're versatile and can get a good thumpin sound out of them ...

i'd recommend checking out an epiphone les paul .. they sound great and aren't too expensive .. and you can get some really nice clean tones out of them i've found ..

still it comes down to what you plug in and play and like ! ... i reccomend also if possible playing each guitar you try through the amp you have .. to get an accurate idea of what it sounds like with the rest of your stuff so theres no nasty suprises later ! hehe

I agree with Stiglar. You need to play different guitars and find one that fits you. You can find some nice affordable import Charvels, Jacksons, Ibanez, and Epiphone Les Pauls. I've always owned imports and have been very happy with most I've owned.

These posts are pretty useless. It's like asking which brand of toilet paper to buy or which pair of sneakers. You're going to get so many different responses to your question that it's isn't going to get answered

You buy what YOU like...the one that feels best when held and played and the one you can afford. Any other answer to this question is just opinion only and pure horseshit.

I agree with Stingx, that u have try some guitars out. I've been playing with Ibanezes for quite some time now. I'm just comfortable with them. My newest Ibanez is the best guitar i've played on. Its a rg prestige model. The neck is thin, plays fast and is effortless. I find when i pick up a Les Paul or a similar style guitar, i just can't play. It feels big and slow. If i started playing on Les Pauls years ago, my opinion would probably be the other way around. So try some out and get the one that feels right for you.

I have to agree that if you are just starting out....the Ibanez with the Prestige neck is worth checking out. It is so thin that you can get to those hard to reach chords much better. I try to pick up a different guitar out of my collection every time I play so I don't get too used to any one.....and I have to admit my Wolf standard is the most comfortable to me personally....but my RG is always fun to play and it's built for speed.

I've owned both an RG and and epiphone SG. Both of them are solid guitars. You can't really go too wrong with either of them. As others have said, it all comes down to preference.

im the same way as you.. I dont want to spend 2k on a guitar.. but I dont want a crappy guitar. I finally went out on a saturday morning last month and played guitar after guitar.. in shop after shop. I dont like the dumb looking shaped ones... or the weird paint jobs.

I finally found one a wanted.. the sticker was $488(usd), I went home hopped on ebay and bought the same brand and model with a hardshell case for 150 bucks I love the guitar.. its a peavy exp v-type (not the neckthru though)
