Rick Rubin to Produce Next Metallica Album
An official message posted on the Metallica web page today confirmend that Rick Rubin is goingh to produce the next Metallica album. Pictures of the band Jamming with Rubin are up on the Metallica site as well.
So what do you all think? Is another St. Anger on the way or will this album be worth actually purchasing?

I doubt it will be another St. Anger. I hope they learned their lesson when it bombed. Rick Rubin is a much better producer than Bob Rock.
If Lars and James can exist without killing each other during the recording process, it just might be something worthwhile with Rick at the reigns.

I'm not selling my chickens before they hatch... We'll see what they're capable of this time around.

St. Anger is a pile of steaming horse shit IMO! Bob Rock should return his $1M fee for that load.
If Metallica does not return to greatness...it could be the end of a great band.

OK, I'm gonna stick my neck way out on the chopping block here and admit that I love St.Anger. I've been a 'tallica fan since Puppets, and admittedly this isn't close to that album, but I still think its great. I guess at the time it came out I was going through a rough patch and lyrically it really helped me through- which is probably one of the first times I could really say that about an album. To me its really raw emotion. I guess it's not for everybody.
Rick Rubin though, yeah that could be cool. I'm also keen to hear the result as this will be the first studio album with Rob on bass.

Wow, so they might end up sounding like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Rick Rubin produces RAW sounding records though not as bad as St. Anger. We'll just have to wait and see. More importantly is if the song writing is any good.

Me, I like guitar. I like loud squeals and pinch harmonics that only dogs can hear, tapping that would redefine what Fred Astaire popularized, sweeping that would make a janitor jealous, and most importantly great melodic HOOKS (like the greatest hook writers of all time Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson). Singing is not a requirement.

Nice! Seemed to me like Bob Rock was gonna produce this one. Even if this producer sucks im glad they are at least making some changes.
I think Bob Rock is a great producer so nothing against him. I just think he influened this music and kinda ruined the classic we wish was still here.

METALLICA
If Metallica do not produce an album to rival "Ride the Lightning " this time, in my opinion they can shove it up their arses.

I read many times about how Metallica really liked the final product of St. Anger...I really hope they didn't "learn" anything by it's complete flop. If they make the albums that they like, then more power to them...that is the exact definition of NOT selling out...

IMO metallica peaked with Ride the Lightning, that album fucking kills , Kill em all had its moments, Master of Puppets was alright but I have found everything else with the exception of the $5.98EP to be kinda crap.
The linking factor between RTL and $5.98 is that they were raw and the band sounded hungry , I think post RTL is like Rocky Balboa sitting on his lard arse waiting for the next fighting hasbeen to come along.
Metallica need to get the hunger back , inject some screamin solos and quit that fucking nu metal type shite if they want the loyal behind em again imo.

And go back to standard tuning! That "dropped LMNOP" tuning they used on St. Anger was awful. One of the great things about early Metallica was how heavy they sounded at 440 IMO.
Back to the RTL days for sure!

Ill put in it plain english. Metallica is finished. They wont have another hit record. They have been done since And Justice.... The Black album had a few good songs, but everything after that......pure garbage. The next album they make is gonna flop worse than a fat mans asss cheeks

I agree completely, even though we think that St. Anger was crap...they thought it was good and it was what they wanted to do. And Kirk said himself that he's happier not doing solos on the new album cuz he's got enough to think about already.
So we'll have to wait and see what happens with this one.
