Ry Cooder
If you've seen the Ralph Macchio classic "Crossroads", you've heard Cooder play. Anybody else ever gotten in to him? I've got several of his releases, and the guy is just amazing. He can take blues, jazz, tribal, gospel... you name it - and play every one of those styles well and make them fit together on the same album.
My personal favorites are Paradise and Lunch, Bop Til You Drop, Chicken Skin Music, and, of course the Crossroads soundtrack.
