sad bloke needs some help, guitar playing endangered ! urgent!
hey there. sadly after only 5 lessons at yamaha music school's lead guitar course..i most probably wont be able to have any more lessons cause my mom wont allow (and pay) for it (i'm only 16 mind you). i'm pretty at a loss here on how i'll be able to improve my skills, learn new stuff become a good player. hopefully i'll be able to continue my lessons..i'm really learning a lot from my teacher and i'm just gettin the hang of guitar playing. so if anybody has any ideas and suggestions on what i should or can do..please feel free to bring'em forward. all your suggestions will be very very much appreciated.

yea i know..everyone will say that there are tonnes of material on the net..but which one? its really confusing to learn a lot of stuff like techniques and all just by reading and through watching blurry instructional videos which look more like a poorly done home-made porno show, and besides..i hardly have any knowledge on theory i can only read tabs.

Look in Canyon Carver's signature. He has lots of links to stuff that you can use.
Or, take wahwah's advice. When I told him that I didn't know what I should be playing in order to get better, he said. Play whatever you feel like playing !

But there are lots of on line resources to go from. However, I understand how a good teacher can help you out. But other than the online resources, there's not much else you can do at your age. Unless you can form a band at all, and play along with other musicians ?

almost everyone my age is either dressed in stupid overly baggy basketball clothes and listening to crap rap or going around with spikey hair and listening to pop punk shit.

I fell you pain, blahblah. You're half my age, but I feel your pain, bro!
Check out my sig and look up the links in my site. I have found really useful places in the net to learn.
Another thing would be to hook up with a band in your area. If you don't care for the pop punk garbage kids your age listen to, don't be shy and go hang with older folks at the open mic night in a local blues club or bar or something... and try to work out some connections. You might be able to meet people who know people who know people... you catch my drift...
Get yourself out there anyway you can. The other thing is, look up the ads in the local paper. There might be bands rehearsing in your area and you might be able to go and see them and again,,, make connections.
I hope this helps. Good luck!

Re: sad bloke needs some help, guitar playing endangered ! urgent!
regarding canyoncarver's post..well i'm pretty much not up to standard to play most stuff, although i can pull off a few simple blues stuff(not extremely well though)
regarding the band issue..yea was pretty fun jamming, but then the songs don't suit my taste so i won't really be bothered to learn'em..i'm pretty much an extra there anyway, you can pull it off with 1 guitar
as for learning..read my post "good news and bad news, interested?"

Re: sad bloke needs some help, guitar playing endangered ! urgent!
thanks for the advice and tips canyon! great help! woa how come everyone here's older than me? yea i'm browsing around for more gigs ... can't find any that do the old kinda rock that i like though rock scene here's pretty small, either emo or pop punk or a little mix here and there..but really small, little variation, all the local bands that i've heard(their records) sing about the same thing..typical stuff like how sad they feel cause their girl dumped them and how they walked in the sunset..yadablahblah
