I read somewhere that the blades on the trems like the Schaller are separate pieces of inferior metal to the plate and can wear. It's better if you take the one-piece-plate Ping model. Although Schaller is an excellent make.
I have both types though on different guitars and although not Ping or Schaller...I have had no problems with either. Doesn't help you much does it?! I'd get the cheaper Ping. I think they look better and the brass components are very strong.
thanks for ur input Ill prob go with the Ping unless someone can give me a reason not too.

No, I think you should upgrade, but no need to spend the extra money for the Schaller... Even most of the licensed Floyds I have seen the past 10 years are excellent quality. I have gigged with several licensed Floyds with no problems at all. I say go for it

I dont go for tremolos and after reading the above, I would never consider a floating locking trem system , have a good read over it dude. Its just my own personal preference but too many people for my liking have said they are an utter nightmare.
I would go with the Ping. The Schaller is good, but Ping is the only one good enough for Floyd to allow his name on them. Next to a 'proper' Floyd this is the next best thing. Nice fat brass block too

Q - How many guitarists does it take to change a light-bulb?
A - Twenty. One to change the bulb and nineteen to say "Not bad, but I could've done better." :wtf:
Big, It's a question of preference, sure. But if you want to play along with Van Halen or Vai you need a trem to do it. I started playing guitar 3 years ago and I've learnt a hell of alot about FR trems in that time. Like the site says its not rocket science. There of course are pros and cons of having a locking trem. Common ones are:
CONS
It takes a while to tune and change strings, getting out the allan keys etc.
They can be unstable (but are fixable with the right knowledge)
Drop D tuning means having two guitars (unless you have a D tuna, and I've heard mixed reviews of those)
Squeaky Whammy Bars and Springs.
Breaking a string puts the whole guitar out.
PROS
They make cool noises.
It adds colour to your playing.
You can learn another dimension of guitar playing.
Now thats fewer Pros than Cons, but like I said, with a bit of knowledge, (gained from forums like this or other parts of the net) FR Trems can be persuaded into behaving themselves, and if you want the diversity of playing a trem offers, then I think it is something that people shouldn't dismiss. If you're happy with your fixed bridge, then fine. I have a Les Paul copy and its one of the best guitars I have played, sounds fantastic. But if you like the divebombs and horsies and stuff that VH and Vai do, and you can afford it ... then I wouldn't persuade anyone not to try an FR. And if they dont like it, they have two choices, they can come here and ask advice and we can all try and fix it. Or they can sell it.

yo, im going with a Ping Floyd or an original not an Ibanez floyd and i already know the ping fits....and if it didnt i have the tools needed to route which i dont need......and considering i got Sperzel Trem-Loks i should be fine ive owned tons and tons of guitars with floyds......never had any problems.........this guitar is gonna be awesome when im done with it. ive got a guitar with a Ibanez Edge Pro 2, a guitar with a Tune-o-Matic, and a guitar with a Wilkinson.......i like my RG the best.......but once im done modding my SA.....it will be a whole differnt story The Ping block is smaller than the Ibanez Edge Pro 2 block......so i wont need to route.

Yea, anything that involves your playing I strongly recommend that you try it out first hand and not go by what is read. Each person is different... And there are so many varying opinions.
Think of it like only average chicks talk to you, so that's what you date, but try to talk to the hottie head cheerleader (Let's say who might be a senior in high school and you are a freshman...), you may score THIS, I speak from experience! Had I read somehwhere to stay within my click, I wouldn't have understood what all those stretches really are for
